I think the sponsor gets a different UCI number from the PA . Maybe that’s why it’s not linking
Are you able to link your application? My spouse has his UCI with visitor visa. I don't know why the email shows my UCI instead of his.

When using the GCKey link, use the UCI that was provided on your AOR. Write all information exactly as it was written on your application. Be sure when you're indicating the number of persons on the application that you count you, your spouse, and any dependents.

[Inland Spousal PR] [No dependents]
PR application submitted online on 19 Nov 2023
OWP submitted online on 19 Nov 2023 as well

Waiting for AOR

Does anyone have experience for OWP processing timeline under family sponsorship? I know on IRCC website it says 130 days for inland application, but will it be faster than that? Reason for asking is that I have secured an job opportunity and the hiring manager is waiting for my OWP update.

Thanks all in advance.

How did you submit your OWP without the AOR, they asked to submit it with your application.

When you are saying linking your application you mean using the application status tracker?

@bobolumar It sounds like the employer that gave you the job offer isn't willing to go through the LMIA process (which business-wise, is understandable). If you submitted an OWP application before receiving your AOR, then your permit will likely be declined since you must receive your AOR first in order to qualify for the OWP. You could still apply for a Closed-Work Permit, which will allow you to work solely for the employer that is offering you the opportunity/position/job. The employer has additional hoops to jump through in order to do that though (such as proving to the federal government that the work can not be done by a Canadian worker) if you were to go that route instead.

Once you get your AOR (which should arrive within 3-4 weeks of the initial submission of your PR application) you can apply online for the OWP. The online processing times are estimated at about 4 months right now.

@rmtl I'm talking about using GCKey specifically. There's a link that displays after you log in that specifically says "link an application" and will ask you to fill in a few fields in order to locate the application that you would like to link. It does track the status of your application, but the IRCC will also communicate and send messages to you about your application through the GCKey portal as well.

Usually it is using the Sponsor's UCI -- in Justin618's case, it may be different since the UCI on their AOR is the Applicant's UCI rather than the Sponsor's.

Thanks I think I will use the application tracker status because we both can register and use it.

Actually, that is one of my doubts too. Interestingly, I did all the steps online and after the questionnaire it never asks for my AOR letter and I was able to submit OWP with only the mandatory forms and supporting documents. I guess they will ask me to provide AOR once they start to review the application.

You can include the AOR attachment letter and upload it on Client’s information option on GCKEY

Hello! We submitted the sponsorship "inland" application in Dec. 7th. The open work permit of my common-law partner will be expired on Jan.05, 2024. It is almost not possible for us to apply OWP with AOR before Jan. 05.

Recently, I noticed that we could in fact submit OWP application without AOR. Please see the description below:

Who’s eligible to apply for a work permit without an AOR
You can only apply for a work permit without an AOR if you meet both of the following criteria:

  • your work permit, study permit or temporary resident status will expire in 2 weeks or less and
  • you’ve applied for permanent residence under one of the following classes:
    • the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (SCLPC) as a spouse or common-law partner
    • the family class as a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner (sponsored overseas)
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/spouse-partner-children/spouse-common-law-partner-canada-open-work-permit.html

We are so happy to find that information and we are going to submit OWP soon.

At the same time, I was not 100% sure about this since so far what I read in this forum is the necessity of obtaining AOR for sponsorship OWP application. Has anyone ever submit the OWP application without AOR and finally obtained it? Many thanks!
