Sometimes I feel that it was a wrong decision to not do upfront medicals. I got sick and my medicals only passed on February 10th. I wonder what will happen now. I have eligibility completed but I wonder if my file wil be severely delayed because I did not do upfront medicals. Hopefully someone will look at my file and not forget about it!
I also did medical exams only after BIL and MED request. For me, it didn't make sense to do it earlier. It could be that our files will be slightly delayed but one must not forget that IRCC doesn't work on applications or look at them everyday. But we prolly are one step behind the folks who did their meds upfront.

I remember around 2010 and upwards, when people applied for PR (for context it took more than a year at that time to process the files), They usually do the medical as soon as they get their AOR in the mail ( Some were Paper based so you were patiently waiting for the post man to arrive :D ). The AOR confirms reception, and you have your application number. With that you can go to the doctor and do your medicals in order to have your application slightly faster done. Same thing with the payement of fees, some said if you pay everything together on the spot you'll win like a week in processing time.

Yeah. I think they should get rid of the upfront medical system for everyone so there is parity among all applicants. When I was in the clinic, there were still a bunch of guys standing to do their upfront meds despite the latest instructions. I don't blame them but IRCC should make the system where you only get meds request after completing eligibility and discontinue the practice of upfront meds. This used to be the system a long time ago but then they changed it. I mean, at the end of the day, if you're only gaining 1 or 2 weeks of processing time then it's better to wait for IRCC to request them.

I actually had my medicals around the same time the instruction came out. I've already paid before to book my spot for the upfront medical. When I arrived at the clinic the assistant told me sorry we cannot do your medicals because we got a message from IRCC with new instructions. As I wasn't aware for the new instructions I told her yeah sure but what can I do I need to submit something in my application? She just proceeded to reimburse me and told me sorry we can't do a thing for you. thankfully I called another clinic and they told me to come and did the procedure as they used to do.
When you mentioned the one or two weeks processing time, I remembered my former application (under PNP) years ago. I waited 9 months approx to have just the AOR. :D IRCC literally teaches you patience.

Hopefully an approval email this week or max a few weeks. If you are planning to land early this year, start your prep :)
