Yup they will approve the sponsor first then you, the Principal Applicant. If you have your AOR, ask him to link that number to his GCKey account so you can keep track of the progress. They will request what they need from you from there and reach out via email/sometimes regular mail. Now you're about to go through the hardest part...waiting :p

I got AOR1 on 16th Jan. I haven't had much luck linking our application to my GCkey account. Anyone having similar issues? I am using the principal applicant's details and checked application and UCI number. Is there a time lag between receiving AOR1 and when we are able to link account?

this worked and i was able to link application. Thanks for the help.
So we are adding sponsor into the number of applicants? I just summed my wife and dependent kids, didn't include myself

Application received on Nov13th, I was able to link the application today on Gkey and ecas. We didn't get the Aor but I guess that will come.

My husband hasn't been able to link his account either. He's going to try again tomorrow but we're wondering if we have to wait for them to inform him to try to link the account. Or I wonder if I have to wait to be approved as a sponsor first?

I do not think there is a communication that goes out on that. The advise to link account is already given on the IRCC website. I will wait till Sunday and give it a go again and see.

How long is that?

Called the IRCC the other day asking about my package (just wanted to make sure they did indeed get it) They gave me a temp case number. The guy told me they are currently processing October 9th applications and said I had a good month and half to go give or take. He said however, just because the AOR1's are taking long that the process in Sydney has been amazing and they're super proud of their newest office and wish to keep up with the speed. I was very content hearing all this from him! Very nice rep! Took awhile to get through but I finally did after the 7th time.

Really excited now!

You can use this temp file (without the x) to check the automated phone service.

Hello Everyone,

I just received the file number for my husband we applied on 7th Nov 2018, application recieved on 11th Nov 2018 and 16 Jan 2019 is the date we received our file Number.

I have couple of questions:
1) What is the next step after getting the file number? Do they ask for finger prints or medical request and how long do they take to send you the next request??

2) My husband is currently in Dubai and he will be staying their for 3 months if we receive a request for finger prints or his medical would he able to perform it by staying in Dubai or he has to go back to pakistan to get it done??

Thanks,
Hi,

1) Most straight forward Outland Spousal Sponsorship follow these process steps (the order of the steps may vary)
  1. Application received at IRCC
  2. IRCC start processing application
  3. Receive Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR 1)
  4. Link Application to Online Account
  5. Sponsor Approval and File transfer to VO
  6. VO starts processing PR application (AOR 2)
  7. Receive Request for Medical Exam
  8. Medical Exam @ IRCC Panel Physician Clinic
  9. Medical Exam Result
  10. Passport Request (PPR)
  11. Pick-up Permanent Residency Visa (PUM)
They will let you know through your GCkey account or by email whether if they need any additional documents.

2) I have had a similar situation when I had applied for my PR in 2014, ( I had applied through the FSWP program and not Express entry, this used to the permanent residency application program prior to Express entry). I had applied for PR from my India and later moved to UAE. I had informed CIC about this change in my residential address. Once I received my medical request, I did my medicals at Al Zahra hospital in Sharjah, it cost 700 Dhs back then. I guess it will be best if you keep CIC posted about any address changes for the PA. There is a call center number where you will be able to reach them.

Even I was unable to link the application to the GCkey account when I tried it the first few times. Please note that it is the Principal applicant's details(UCI number/Family name, passport details etc) that needs to be filled in and not the sponsor's details. And at one place it asks for the number of applicants, there you have to fill in the " Actual number of applicants + 1".

For example, if there is only one person in the application (your spouse), you enter the number of applicants as 2.

Yeah, I am using the Principal Applicant's details. I have used all options, still no luck thus far. And yes I have now included myself in the number of persons in the application and still unable to link.

I have reported it as a technical issue and see how things go from there on.

Received app Nov2, 2018

Medical request January 18

Hi! My wife's application was delivered in Sydney NS on 26-Nov-2018. We haven't received any updates so far. Is there anything we should do right now, like checking online or try to link our paper application to GC Key, etc?
