Hi,
my common-law partner is sponsoring me under the Family Class. Our application is finished, we've only been waiting for his Notice of Assessment. Last night CRA finally uploaded the document...

The thing is, now I'm freaking out because it seems like he doesn't make enough money. He is self-employed and his accountant was able to write off A LOT of things for him. I was doing some research regarding this matter and I found Guide IMM 5482. There is a table that shows the Minimum necessary income to sponsor somebody. So for the two of us he has to have an income of $30,625, right?
I'm looking at my partner's Notice of Assessment, line 150. Is this the income IRCC is going to look at? It's not even close to $30,625 ....
So what can we do now? He DOES have enough money to provide for me, I mean, he has been paying for everything over the last 13 month. Rent, two cars, bills, groceries, travels, EVERYTHING.

We were thinking to write an explanation letter, but to be honest, I'm not sure how to explain this....
Can anybody help us out???

relax. the guide you are looking at is not specific to spousal sponsorship. it says right on top of the guide "If you are sponsoring a person other than your spouse, commonlaw partner or child." there is no point looking at guides that are not specific to spousal sponsorship, as they have no relevance to your application.

it is not required for a sponsor to be employed or have any income. the financial requirement is for the sponsor to not be currently receiving welfare or have a bankruptcy discharge on their record. this is all IRCC will be using the NOA for. you are freaking out about something that is not relavant. no letter of explanation is necessary. there are many people who successfully sponsor their spouse without having an income or job.

Hello there,
I know that IRCC will look at the minimum Gross Income (before taxes).
Also check if this applies to your situation:
If you are sponsoring a person other than:

your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no family members, or
your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has dependent children who have no dependent children of their own, or
your child who has no children of his or her own,

Then your partner must provide proof and use the Evaluation forms.

Hope this helps

as stated above and highlighted in red, this does not pertain to spousal sponsorship.
