Can any one please give some clarity on 16th Dec CAP update on CIC site.

1. MI review pending and completeness check done applications contains completeness till what date and month?
2. Does completeness check done immediately once your application is received and then waits for review or even completeness check takes time??

I read in some other thread that MI review pending documents contains all application received till 16th. is this right??

My application reached on 15th dec for NOC 1123.. and 16th update says CAP 482 and MI review 340.

Can any one tell me what are my changes to be in CAP??

Hi Harshala,

While I would love to say "Yes, You are within the cap", I think its better to err on the side of caution here.

I just told Jeys here the same thing.

Here are answers to what I think are your questions:
1. Seems to be until the middle of November. For 1123, I would think the quota cap is reached (not trying to discourage you but that's what I feel).
2. CIC clearly mentions that they "try" but cannot assure that they will be able to address each application on the day it is received. That should be an indicator that some (if not all) applications wait for some time in the order that they were received to be checked for completeness. Then they wait for some more time to be checked for "points" or "Ministerial Instructions" check.

Most likely, applications from 15th November onward are not captured in the CIC update on the website. But NO ONE can be 100% sure of what has gone through and what is remaining. In fact that NO ONE includes even most of the VO in CIC Nova Scotia. Its a BIG system brothers - no one person even inside might know all the details down to the last application. Anyone who tells you otherwise (without a CSE / GCMS) is probably just shooting off his/her mouth!

Hi rick, can u share basis of your calculation for 19th Nov?
Currently CIC is charging till Oct mid. How come they updated Caps details based on one month ahead applications?

Because once the payment has been charged, only then application can be counted as "Complete". As per my calculations, it is updated till Oct mid. Correct me if i am wrong.

From 16th Oct to 15th Dec, their are around 37 applications in the SS for 1123..2-3 here and there if i missed counting them.

Assuming, if the 16th update of CIC on 340 pending applications, contains completeness check till mid oct... we can say we dec applicants still stand chance to be in CAP..

My calcutions goes this way..

No. of application in SS from 16th Oct till Dec 16th.. around 37
Assuming global SS contains only 25% of total world application for 1123.

so, 25% = 37 applications
there for 100% =?

Answer, 148..

And current number says 482+340=822 which means still there are 178 seats..

Just my calculation..may be right may be wrong..

Yes! If eCas is updated that means your file has been checked for completeness. Found to be complete and has proceeded to checking for points stage. Now, if not already charged, your DD will be encashed very soon. You can expect to get PER very soon.

Actually no one can say with 100% certainity. I saw on the CIC page that they had "last updated" date of 19/11 & Same date for PhD applicants. Earlier they used to put date for applications/cap update - that is no longer the case so I cannot say for sure - I just said its my opinion. We could either be right/wrong but most likely we are both in the "maybe" state.. Also please note for 2171/2173, 1000 applications were reached around 3 weeks before the last reported charge and the fact that the update page reads, "we have received more than 1000 applications in xxxx NOC" which is a clear indication that they are still sticking to an overall FIFO approach never mind the 1000 applications cap.

Payment need not be charged at completeness. Complete means your application has everything that is needed to make a decision on MI (what we call points calculation). Once complete, I believe it moves to charge and then PER/NER stage and somewhere in between CAP gets updated. However this is just observation and inference & tribal knowledge. No 100% certainty.

Here is my theory on why I think that the last update includes applicants till at least the end of November (plus or minus a few days).


As of the start of November, the CIC applications that were accepted was showing as only 105 since May. Let's say CIC hadn't yet counted the applications received in the month of October. Assuming the applications received in October was 250. (which I believe was a peak month for applications). Many people would have gathered their documents by this time. So realistically, the total applications that CIC has for 1123 from May till start of November is 355. This can be further backed by real time data because on 10th of Nov, the CIC applications received was updated to 347 (very close). They had likely counted most of the October applicants by the 10th Nov.

Let's assume that from start of November till the end of November, so many applicants sent in their application. I'd consider this as the highest peak month, most people had their documents ready. The number of applications sent in November may be roughly be around 350 - 400. Let's go with the higher number of 400, just to remove some doubt (I think it's unlikely the number of applicants were this many but let's go with the worst case scenario)
The CIC page was still showing 385 as of the end of November. The page was not updated for some weeks, most of the November applicants were not yet counted in this 385 number. Let's assume around 400 November applicants not yet counted. Realistic total of applicants by end of November: 785.
December applicants: I don't consider this month to be a peak period, I think November had the most applicants. I think 200 max is the number of applicants for December because it's just too close to the cap and deadline, only some people didn't have their documents by now.
On Dec 16th, CIC updated their table, applications received counted towards cap: 482. Pending applications: 340 (most likely the November applicants are in this pending section). 782 applications. Very close to the earlier 785 estimate. All November applicants are most likely already been counted in either of these two sections on the CIC website.
The cap left is 178 and I feel that the spaces left would only be for applications received in December and all previous months have already been counted in either applications towards cap section or pending applications section.

What this means is that most December applicants still have a chance to be counted in the cap.
