Hello,yes change of name can only be done in Abuja.did mine more than 2months ago,and its not yet ready! My collection date was 24th of last month.They said they are doing system upgrade. The way it works..you ll have to send your old passport(original), affidavit,passport photo,marraige cet(photocopy),they ll open a file for you,they ll tell youu when to come for capturing,they ll give yuu collection date.that's 3trips to abuja. But you can make it one trio(just for capturing) if u know someone that can help you.

If your wife is changing her maiden name to marital, its done in abuja....my wife did hers early this year and i forwarded the details to AVO...so its true its done in Abuja alone..dont even believe anybody that says dey will do it in Lag...except they av changed the rule over nite..but I dont think so...cheers

Yes You are right. Change of name can only be done in Abuja alone. You said you forwarded the details of your wife's change of name to AVO; was it done electronically or by courier? Specifically what documents did you send? I am getting conflicting advice on this but would like to know the most effective way to send the information and the actual documents to send. Also, was there some sort of acknowledgement from AVO after sending it.

I sent scanned copies of the formal passport and the new one bearing her marital name and also a short write up doing some explanation....I sent them electronically using their online platform...I think it was just the programmed email response...

Thanks everyone for your input......I think I would just wait until I get here to change it. It only costs $25 in Ontario.....No need going through all this Niger stress...
