Please can some tell me if I'll need the police certificate for my initial application?

Nope. You can send off your application if all other documents are ready except the PCC (police certificate). This is clearly stated in the checklist for your application package.

However, start working on getting them especially if you have to get from more than one country. Good luck.

Great Forumites,
greetings.I wonder if any one has a similar experience which i can profit from.I raised a bank draft for USD980 being RPRF for spouse and self.Accra wrote to say they will not cash the draft bc it exceeded d required amt by 80 dollars and that i shld send afresh draft.I was also asked t send an address they will use t return the 980usd draft.I wrote back twice proposing that I am willing t waive the excess and that they go ahead t cash the draft.I have not received a response.I am in a dilemma knowing whether their silence means they are ok with my proposal.Pls what do i do.Its two weeks their letter came

I will vehemently suggest you do as AVO as directed you to do. The way they work is highly regulated and they'll take no more and no less on Fees.
Please quickly raise another draft (of the actual requirement) and send to them ASAP. Also, send an email, providing an address where your initial draft can be sent.
My 1cent advice. Hope it helps. :)
Cheers

Errm, i am a bit confused here , when did accra change the cost of RPRF has it not been $490 all along?. In the mail they sent me, they just i should pay the RPRF for myself and spouse they didnt state the amount.

Yea,think there was a review wef feb 6 2014.If u are paying with usd then its 900 for the 2 persons and with canadian dollars its 980

You may decide to send it with/without it!

If you decided to send it without your PC; it would still be forwarded to Accra by CIC, if your application was successful!

But Accra would request that you send it as soon as they received your application package.

It will be best if you do as Accra had instructed. I can remember having a similar experience with the British council on the payment of IELTS.
I was told to get another draft in the correct amount as they will not accept an amount higher than what had been stipulated.

Seconded!!!

It's strongly recommended we land where there are reliable friends or family that could help us cushion the harsh effect most new immigrants go through in their new country; Canada.

Nevertheless, if you must land in an un-familiarised territory; back yourself up financially and I mean, heavily!

I suggest we land in provinces where there is low rate of unemployment; low crime rate; low tax-rate; immediate Medical insurance usage; friendly and supportive locals et al

In my own opinion and with the statement above, I'll suggest Alberta to be the best Province for new immigrants! - Calgary and Edmonton being the best cities in this Province. Alberta being a Province with a booming Oil and Gas sector makes it a very rich Province - with lots of both white and blue collar jobs; not only in Oil and Gas, but in all fields.

Lastly, landing in the summer(which starts proper in May) is the best time to land. There are more jobs as companies recruit more during this time. Prices of accommodation are even affected favourably. It's always very difficult to commute very well during the winter 'cos of the heavy snowing and also, it's always very skin-splittingly cold that almost all of us used to the African tropical climate can hardly cope with it. Some province are colder than some but it's generally very cold in Canada. Landing in summer helps you prepare for the next winter properly.

All the best!

oh.... Sorry about that. The mistake u made was that u drawn the the draft in USD instead of CAD. The RPRF table says 490CAD or 450USD. So paying 980USD instead of 900USD means u have paid in excess of 80USD . U must raise another draft with a correct amount and email them of your postage add for the other draft. They will never cash any draft in excess of actual amount . I wish u well in this journey.
