Seconded!!!
It's strongly recommended we land where there are reliable friends or family that could help us cushion the harsh effect most new immigrants go through in their new country; Canada.
Nevertheless, if you must land in an un-familiarised territory; back yourself up financially and I mean, heavily!
I suggest we land in provinces where there is low rate of unemployment; low crime rate; low tax-rate; immediate Medical insurance usage; friendly and supportive locals et al
In my own opinion and with the statement above, I'll suggest Alberta to be the best Province for new immigrants! - Calgary and Edmonton being the best cities in this Province. Alberta being a Province with a booming Oil and Gas sector makes it a very rich Province - with lots of both white and blue collar jobs; not only in Oil and Gas, but in all fields.
Lastly, landing in the summer(which starts proper in May) is the best time to land. There are more jobs as companies recruit more during this time. Prices of accommodation are even affected favourably. It's always very difficult to commute very well during the winter 'cos of the heavy snowing and also, it's always very skin-splittingly cold that almost all of us used to the African tropical climate can hardly cope with it. Some province are colder than some but it's generally very cold in Canada. Landing in summer helps you prepare for the next winter properly.
All the best!
