Ok well I am going to be honest and admit something I've been hiding on this forum. My daughter is not my biological daughter. But I am mommy, and I've been in her life her whole life....and she is my precious little girl. Remember I think I told you all...my husband was my best friend before he became my boyfriend/husband. And we got together shortly after her birth...as he seperated from the biological mother just before...gave it one last try after the birth and seperated permanently. Sooooooo my application is for both my daughter and my husband.

I have a hard time admitting this to peoplebecause I've been mommy so long..that I forget she is not my biological daughter, and honestly being adopted myself, being a mother to a child I didn't give birth to is very natural and easy. But often when people hear she did not grow in my tummy..they take something from the relationship...like invalidate it a bit if that makes sense. But if I'm not honest about that fact...then how can I ask for help if I need it on here!!

So I wonder if that will make the time longer for me.

Also I did not include a notorized letter from the biological mother at all. I was told that I had to get that letter once they were approved to leave, and that it had to be taken with me when I went to leave the country with her. Instead I got a letter from the biological mother stating I was a mother to her child, and that I had been in her life basically her whole life and loved and supported her as my own. I also included a letter from the biological mother stating that we were financially responsible for the child as well. But they were sent as emails to me....so I just printed them out. But there is contact info to get ahold of her if they need.

Crap...am I screwed now?

while I cant comment on the legality as I have never started my process I commend u for being a mom n it shouldnt take away at all good for u. I think if the mom n u have a good relationship then a letter notarize should be no problem just keep praying as u have and everything will work out

ebonyshine : Last week Miss Posh was having a similar conversation to this and her husband got the passport call in the morning... so my hope for you is that you don't have to worry about MP's or CAIPS notes and instead can be worried about booking flights and cleaning out closets!

Oh yes...the biological mother is in full support of this. She never wanted children, and while she does love my daughter, she's more than happy to pass on the responsibility to someone else. Being a mom is a serious interuption to her social life and because she loves our daughter, she wants her to have all the things she deserves and she knows we try to be the best parents possible to her...so she is willing to sign whatever, and seeing as how we get along famously, she wrote a beautiful email that I sent with my immigration package about how I've been a mother to our daughter, and that she knows the little one will have everything a child should and that we are financially responsible for her. Its kinda of a unique situation.

Like I said...I've been mommy a long time, and this is the best decision for everyone. My daughter will always have a loving home where she has two parents and is raised with her future siblings. The little one actually looks more like my daughter than her's...kind of a running joke between us all.

My only worry was I understood the letter was something I didn't have to send with the immigration package, but rather something I got when it was approved and then took with me when we went to take her with us to Canada. If I had known, I would have sent it in with the package..so I'm hoping this doesn't result in delays.

smoothies - don't worry. my husband and I also had to deal with the biological mother. when i contact CIC they indicated that each office has different requirements to prove custody. what they did say is that custody and acceptance by the biological mother must be assessed at the point of initial application (whether the child is accompany the spouse or not).....they do not re-assess when the child is sponsored later. We included a letter from the mother indicating that my spouse has full custody and that she is aware that the child may accompany him at some point in the future to live in canada. we then had it notarized by the JP to be safe. we have concerns that the mother will play games later to hold up my spouse's application but hopeful that she won't hinder the opportunity for her son. she seldom sees him now but sometimes people can be selfish. we have plans to bring the child later after hubby gets settled. gramma is more than happy to step in temporarily so that will work well.
CIC said the most important was to show the person has custody and that the other parent is aware that the child is or will be coming to canada, however, KGN may require more info. i think it will depend on the situation and the IO's review of the file.

just wait cuz they will contact if they require additional information.

C'mon KGN.....let's see some updates in the next few days before your vacations!!!!!

You are indeed that little girl's mother in ever sense of the word. Everything will work oput for you and in good timing too.

Good morning Newbies....I hope all is well everyone. Well I have been reading everyone's input and I just love the way we call all bond with each other and feel safe and secure to share our most deep and intimate thoughts.

Sanchester: Girl thank you so much for all your information you posted...this is all so very important because I am worried that hubby maybe become home sick because Ja is such a different kind of living. I mean they have the ability to step outside their home and see people on streets or next door.There is always something going on around the corner or around the bend. My hubby plays soccer and he is on the field if not once a day but twice, in between work. When night comes he goes out to the local bar to have a drink or chit chat with ppl.

Irving: Girl keep up the good work ...got to make sure the body is flexible for your trip to see hubby in a few days.

Sanchester: GIrl you need to contact our MP here in Whitby..Mr. Jim Flahertry. I did and I spoke to Kim...she will take all your information and lets see what she can do for you. I dont think this prolongs your application at all.

SmoothieQueen, girl hats off to you and your family,I love they way you talk! Trust me you should not even tell anyone that that little girl is not yours because I swear they, like myself, would swear you are lying. There is no way anyone could telll that she is not your biological child!!
I dont think you have anything to worry about as her dad has custody and the mother is willing to sign all required docs for you guys to sponsor and bring her to Canada so you will be fine.

ladyposh: morning honey i tried to answer your question on the other thread, when i had applied for my TRV I had to pay for the courier at DHL, the turn around time was about 10 days, not sure if its the same for PRV.
