New passport after oath ceremony

Same here, I'm in a bit of a planning phase with oath coming up, had the same questions about passport app. The person I will use as guarantor is going on vacation soon, so I'll have to get him to fill out his part before hand, then the certificate # by hand after oath. My two refs will hopefully be in town also. December being holiday season, people are generally out of the country or traveling somewhere, what happens if they cannot reach a guarantor or reference? Does that delay things, or cause any complications?
For normal applications, they usually don’t even contact the guarantor or references. On the other hand for urgent applications (24h) it seems that they often call them.

For the references, you actually can specify more than 2 if you feel that some may not be available. I got this information from the passport office. I guess that you can print an additional page of the application form just to fill 2 additional references.

But you can have only one guarantor, so you need to make sure he his available otherwise you might want to pick someone else.

Finally, I think that you should warn your guarantor and references that they may get a call from the passport office.

Sounds good, thanks, but what happens if they can not reach a guarantor or any references, assuming they call for a regular application ?
Do they re-try, if so, how many times, what are the rules, can it lead to a rejection ?
I understand you may not be privy to such info, but asking all the same, thanks.

Hello,

I know that the guarantors needs to be a Canadian citizen. How about the references? Is permanent resident ok?

By road I think that you should be fine too. However by air you might need to double check this. Normally, once you are Canadian, you need a valid Canadian passport to enter Canada by air.
I am 100% sure for Road travel but kindly confirm for Air.

Sharing my experience with the passport application. Was applying in person for three passports a week after our oath ceremony (family of 3). The Passport Canada agent said that in their system my wife and child appear as they are citizens but I am showing as a non-citizen. She advised me to call IRCC and ask what's going on, as she could not accept my passport application, even though I had my citizenship certificate, without the system showing I am a citizen. Well I just walked to the IRCC office (they are a couple of blocks from Passport Canada office) and talked to the lady there about the problem, she said please wait and she went to her office, a couple of minutes later she came back apologizing and saying that the IRCC clerk forgot to update their system after our oath ceremony, so they updated my wife and child's info but not mine. She apologized and said it should be fine now, I went back to Passport Canada office, the agent scanned my citizenship certificate again and checked the system and this time it was showing that I am a citizen. Moral of the story IRCC employees are also humans and they do mistakes, so if your status is not changing for a long time when you know it should have changed, give them a call, talk to them, etc. as it may be a simple matter of overlooking smthg or forgetting to update applicant's status, but it won't change unless you intervene.

When you say IRCC office, what exactly is that ? What is the name of that office ?

I got the guarantor to fill in the form in advance. After I received the citizenship certificate, I updated and printed only that page.

Happy to inform that I received my passport in 24 hours. Oath ceremony on 5th. 6th morning 9am I applied for the passport after CIC updated the status as complete on the website. 7th morning 10am received the passport. Very efficient process. They called the guarantor and both the references within 10minutes of application submission. Questions were around physical description, how long do you know the person, the occupation

Happy to hear.

Did you apply on an urgent basis?

For question 7 A, I moved into my current address a few months ago. Do I need to enter that address as well? If yes, what should I enter for the "to" date? Same for 7 B.

Thank you.

If they don't get through the first time, they leave a voice message with the reference and guarantor to call back. It happened to me. They spoke to one reference. The other reference and guarantor did not answer their calls so they left a voice message with instructions. They called back and they had to leave a voice message answering the questions.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense. I applied yesterday for passport, my guarantor is leaving on vacation on 22nd Dec, and my passport will be ready for pickup in 2 weeks according to the PP office, i.e. on 21st Dec .
That is just perfect timing, as my guarantor will be around just enough to answer any calls, phew!

Hello everyone, I have a quick question. This is for my Wife's PP application.
It says she needs 1 Guarantor and 2 references.
Guarantor should be Canadian citizen only?
How about the reference, they should be Canadian citizen or can be any one?

Do references have to sign any documents or just name and details we need to provide?

Thank you for the help in advance.
