You have to do Legal Name Change/Election of Surname procedure after getting new Indian Passport. (You can do both at the same time too)

When you get both (New Indian Passport with the new name and Legal Name Change/Election of Surname Certificate), you will have to apply for New PR Card with New Name.

There are some rules like.....have to inform and change in Revenue Canada within 60 days of name change. And you will have to change Name everywhere like Employment, SIN, Health, Banks, Credit Cards......Most of them can be done by making Phone calls or Sending copies of Legal Name Change/Election of Surname Certificate and new Passport.

You WILL HAVE to apply for New PR card as soon you get new Indian Passport and Legal Name Change/Election of Surname Certificate. For urgent processing (3-4 weeks) of new PR card, you have to submit proof of travel (return air ticket with its payment confirmation). Normal processing time of new PR with name change will be 3 to 4 months.

Name change on PR card is must (after changing name on Indian passport) to avoid problems in immigration and airline boarding while you return to Canada from India . Due to a mismatch in Surname, Indian immigration and airlines will/may say that you don't have a Valid Visa to go to Canada. And they will/may not accept Canada Legal Name Change Certificate.

If travle date is very near such that you can't get Name Changed on PR card, you can obtain "Travel Document for PR outside Canada" on your Passport from Canada High Commission/Consulates in India by paying CAD 200 and same set of documents you submit/submitted in Canada for PR Card Name Change. Application is to be submitted at VFS in India. This is a one-time travel document on your Passport to enter Canada when PR's PR card validity expires/is lost while they are abroad.

Name change will not create any problem in your ongoing Spouse Sponsorship, if your Sponsorship is approved (SA) and you inform CIC and NDVO with copies of everything. You are advised to send copies New & Old PR Card, New & Old Indian Passport and Legal Name Change/Election of Surname Certificate with a covering letter and other details like file number etc to NDVO too.

If it's difficult to do all of the above, you are advised to get renewed your Indian Passport by adding husband's name at Spouse Name space and without making any change in your Surname.

Hi!! I submitted my application in November 2014 in Mississauga and was received by December 2014 by CPC. I received my file number in February 2015 and was asked to deposit Landing fee in April.. Does anyone know, how long will it take from there, after submitting landing fee??? :(

I agree with Blr, If this is too much hassle. Just wait to change your surname later on.
Keep it simple. It doesn't help in getting the PR for your spouse any faster.

Hii all,

I have a query.
I did my Medical and PCC in December 2014 from Chennai. Applied for PR in March 2015 and got AOR-2 in May 2015.
I understood from the forum members that after AOR-2 it is going to take another 6 to 8 months for Passport Request.
My query is when is the ideal time for me to renew the Medical and PCC?

Am in AbuDhabi now and if I have to do these..its again an expensive trip to and fro ???
So..checking with forum members.

Appreciate all inputs and suggestions.

Thanks.

Simple answer: Don't do medical and PCC again without them asking for it again.

You can do medical in Abu Dhabi. Just for your PCC you might have to go back.

Hey,

They haven't started processing her file - they have approved you as a sponsor and the file has been transferred to New Delhi and thats it. The Delhi office is working on files received on Aug/Sept 2014 and you file was just transferred July 5th 2015 you will have to wait another 8-9 months before you hear anything about the her PR. The visa visa processing is about 15 days and if she is eligible she will get it..

Yes you can apply for PR and visit visa simultaneously

If you don't mind me asking... Your timeline shows your application was received in October end. What was the reason for receiving AOR in February? (Christmas holidays?)

I have a quick question for senior members.

My file reached New delhi for about 6 months ago( Jan 9, 2015 file was accepted in Delhi) . I am planning to visit my wife in India. I don't know how long this process might take.

1) My lawyer advised me that i should write a letter to Delhi consulate that i am visiting my wife and spending some time together.

2) Is it a good idea to send a letter to delhi consulte?

3) I felt that i should not communicate with Delhi consulate where they have not even started processing my file( or heard anything from them) and don't want to jeoperdize my chances or delayed the process even further.

Any idea in terms of what should i do here?

Thanks.

Hi Vicky2Patel, I would suggest to hold onto information regarding plane ticket, places visited, photos etc with you and provide if and when asked for by Delhi office. I have mentioned this before in previous posts if you're proactively sending them this type of information it can become an issue in the visa officer's mind why is this person trying to prove so hard that their relationship is genuine- so catch 22. Order notes it will let you know by now or soon if interview has been waived.

Regards,
Aman
