For a Citizen it is different but for a PR holder it's more strict - The way I found out about this was through a friend, he had called CIC-M and that was the information provided to him. The agent said for a PR holder 2 weeks to 1 month is fine for vacation if wanting to visit spouse, anything too lengthy might cause delays or an issue down the road. As part of the application to sponsor a spouse it declares that the Sponsor must continuously show duration of time in the country - Canada.
