Yes, your wife should renew her passport. My husband renewed his passport in October 2013. Visa officer called my husband telling his passport needs to be renewed since it's expiring on May 2014. It's better you renew now than making your file extend more longer. :)

Thanks for the reply.
We have already submitted her passport back in July. Should we call new delhi office and ask them to return the passport? Since we both are in Canada, I guess we can submit it for renewal here in Canada. How long did the renewal process take in your husband's case?

There is applicant name spousal whoes interview is done he doesnt tell what happen

No problem.

Call the passport office and ask them if they need the original passport for renewal or a photocopy of your wife's passport. If they are okay with photocopy one, you can provide that if you have one.

If the passport office needs the original passport, call the CIC office and let them know. Tell them that you need to renew your passport, expiring on March 2014. Ask them, if they can send your wife's passport immediately.

If you are sending your passport after renewal to CIC Delhi visa office, I believe you have to send both the old passport and the new passport.

My husband's renewal for his passport it took him 1 day.

Hopefully this help. Have a good day! :)

Hello all,

I have a question. My wife is here in Canada on work permit. I applied for her permanent residency in May 2013 at new delhi office. After my initial assessment, the file has been transferred to new delhi office and we received a letter asking of police clearance and submission of her passport. We have sent her passport in July 2013 but haven't heard anything back from new delhi office. Her passport expires in march 2014 and I have heard all kind of stories that passport expiry date needs to be minimum of 6 months when they give her permanent residency. Is their any such rule? What are my other options?

Thanks

If I understand properly you sent her passport even though she is in Canada right now. More than the expiration date you should worry about the fact that she is now in Canada and her passport in India. An other member is having big issue right now for the same, they have been called for interview but cannot travel as they don't have the passport. You should right away contact them and ask for your passport back and also have it renewed as it is also true that the passport has to be valid for at least 6 months. My understanding after reading many post on that forum is that it is illegal in India to send passport by mail outside the country. I guess you might have to give them an Indian address to send her passport and have someone taking care of sending it back to you. Most important, when you send your passport back to Delhi, ensure your wife is also back in India with her passport to avoid any major issues if they call her for interview.

Good luck

If the indian embassy gets any idea that your passport is in India, you will have bigger problems than your canadian visa
The only fix is, recall passport, someone needs to bring it to canada, renew it here and then send new passport back

as far as I know you cannot mail indian passports and some other countries

The problem is you cannot send by post out of the country. I had a friend of mine who applied for PR and the guy is in Canada and the family is in India. the passport office here in Ottawa asked for all the passports to be stamped there even though they are in india and he got the passports back of all of them in Canada and is planning to go and get his family. So as long as one travels with the passport it is fine. So I dont think it should be a big issue. the only problem is to get the passport from india to Canada

I am sure the NDVO people will call the number in india and return it to be renewed and from there you need to get it to canada to your wife to renew the passport in Toronto or somewhere and then have to send it back.....
