There are multiple business opportunities in Alberta. Don't worry about that. There's a reason tens of thousands of people are moving to Alberta from Vancouver every year....the job prospects, income prospects, and family life is much much better.
British Columbia's education system is weak. The post-secondary options are there but do not stand out. University of Calgary and University of Alberta blow Simon Fraser and UBC out of the water....NAIT, SAIT, and Mount Royal College destroy whatever "technical" schools the lower mainland BC has.
Don't even get me started on the congestion and traffic in Vancouver. If you intend to work in downtown Vancouver you're looking at a 90 minute commute via bus and train...dont even think about driving. Calgary is about 50 minutes and Edmonton about 30 minutes from any corner of the city or even suburbs like Airdrie and St. Albert.
Speaking of suburbs, Airdrie, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park are elite small cities/towns with extremely wealthy young accomplished people living there.
Vancouver suburbs?? LOL....Some are okay but unless you want to be back in the pinds of Punjab avoid Surrey
Also, BC has consistently elected a left-wing government which taxes the hell out if its citizens and is very anti-private industry so a bunch of pot smoking tree-hugging hippies will keep them in power....Alberta is right to center with major tax advantages and privatization meaning major competition amongst businesses and higher upside for prosperity.
For some downside....To be fair, it snows a LOT here....in Edmonton we get snow from November to April....and it gets really cold....suck it up...city does such a great job of snow removal, the roads are always clean, and you're rarely outside in the winter anyways.
Our summers destroy Vancouver....sun is out 18 hours a day and we average about 25 degrees.
