Hello Everyone...

I have been reading this forum for sometime now and thought to post my questions hoping a sound advice from you guys.

Profile:

Indian
PG: MBA
UG: BBM - University Topper; Gold Medalist; 100 percentage in Quant.
Emp: 3 years of Work Exp MNC.

My Intention is to Immigrate to Canada...Intially thought of going throught Quebec Skilled Worker program as per advice from David Campbell Cohen. They asked me to learn french and gave it up.

Recently I made up my mind to pursue and MBA again from Canada thinking it is the easiest way to immigrate.

Got an admission from VIU...As I need a GMAT exemption so I am not looking for top B Schools. But somehow was not greatly convinced with their programme.

Later I applied for University of New Brunswick (UNB) and they offered me the admission into their MBA programme which is of One year duration at their Saint John Campus.

May be I could try better universities...But budget was also another constraint. As UNB fee was 25k USD...Its Okay. I can afford up to 30 K.

So far so happy..

Then I was checking out on the Visa options that I can avail.
I realised that I will get only one year PGWP as the course duration was just one year. So please answer my questions below.
1. If I take up this 1 year course at UNB and get a PGWP for 1 year. How reluctant are the employers to apply for LMO for me. Is it a big deal for them? Or in general they don't want to do.
Because, If there is some hope that these employers are comfortable and happy to take LMO and get me an extension my problem is over.
2. If not UNB offers a 2 year programme in their Fredricton Campus for 2 years. Is it better to take up that course and get 3 year PGWPP. I do not prefer this as do not want to waste one more year. But if there is no option out then I have to take this up.
3.I heard Ontario PNP has a provison that if the student studies his MBA 1 year programme in Ontario they can nominate the student under the PNP for PR.
I can think of UOIT, University of Ontario Inst of Tech...they offer one year MBA with GMAT exemption. Is this a better option? But how far will get the PNP nomination, Ontario being a big and imp province.
4. I might get married this year. If take my wife along...will that effect my home country ties..
Can I get married, Put as Married in the Study Visa application which shows strong ties and go alone...After going there can my wife apply for the Visa to accompany me? Will she get an Open Work permit then?
The other question is if she gets an open permit while I am studying..what happens to her status when I get PGWPP..Can she still work?
5. This is a bit interesting..
If I go for one year programme with my wife..My wife gets an OWP for one year..lets assume she gets a job and works...and if she can work for another year on my PGWPP....Instead of me applying for CEC..Can she apply then..since would have accumulated 2 years of work exp then?

Please answer my questions..I have more questions to asl...Thanks for everyone on this forum who are very help and hope they come to my rescue as well...I've been seeing some famous names ...so called seniors or VIPs like Leon, Enfield..Etc..Hope you guys help me...Eagerly waiting for your thoughts...

Hi,

1. Never rely or can trust your immigration future on LMO. Atleast I won't do. However, if it is a skilled job, in an area in demand... like engineering, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, Occupational therapy, accounting, managerial jobs etc. then chances are very high or nearly assured of a positive LMO.

2. It's always better to do a 2 academic year MBA, get a 3 years PGWP, which will give you more than enough time to pursue immigration. Remember, MOST 2 academic year programmes are 4 sem long.. which is usually pursued continuously in 16 months. SO..in reality..you study only 16 months..and get a 3 years PGWP. I think UNB Fredericton campus completes their 2 acd. year MBA programme in 16 months. Just email them and confirm. So.. living costs won't be that high... for a studying 16 months.

3. yes, you can directly apply for ON PNP nomination and then PR after passing out a Master degree from an Ontario based University, provided you meet certain conditions. However, it's a pilot programme with only 1000 applications accepted per year. If PR is your main aim, do Master's from any of the 2 Saskatchewan province based universities. They offer direct PNP nomination and PR, meeting some conditions. Or pursue Masters from Quebec based universities in french medium or show intermediate level french proficiency and you get direct CSQ/Quebec selection certificate and get PR. To know more about various student immigration programmes see the official links on this older thread:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/various-immigration-programmes-for-international-students-in-canada-t100908.0.html
MBA with GMAT is always better.

4.Spouses of full time students CAN get open work permit for the duration of the study. You spouse needs to apply separately for the work permit. To know more see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-spouse.asp

5. Your wife working on open work permit... that work will NOT be counted FOR YOU. You will have to pass your own course, get PGWP... and then work skilled/unskilled...job for 0-12 months(depending upon immigration programme) and then apply for CEC/PNP.

Hope it's clear.

Best of Luck.

Thanks Tiger.

I would check with my UNB contact regarding the Program for years..The problem here is UND Saint John is ranked good..but not fredricton..

When you say 16 months..Will I be complete the course in just 16 consecutive months? if that is the case I will apply without any doubt.

I also wanted to ask you the chances of Visa for MBA as I already hold an MBA...But both will be different specializations.

The Other question..is what will be the status of the spouse who accompanies you when you are PGWP..Can spouse still be on OWP and continue working

I've read many other posts..Tiger you are first one to respond..You help is highly appreciated.

Hi,

I think this depends on your finances too upon initial study permit application, because u need to add about 5k to your financial statement. However, if that is not a problem, you can take your wife along with u in Canada right away. You can indicate that your wife is a dependent.

4. She will have to apply for TRV to enter Canada, a separate process. Yes, she will get an OWP, valid as long as your SP. Once you are on PGWP, she can get an OWP only if your job is under NOC O,A,B.
5. Yes, she can apply under CEC provided she accumulated 1 year of work exp, full/part-time under NOC O,A,B.

I spoke to UNB SJ campus contact..She says they have the International Business which is about 15 months. She says this course will be eligible for 3 years PGWP.

Below is the e-mail from her "The IB specialization is classroom based from Oct 2013 – July 2014, and then students head off to their study abroad schools – the links to your options are below

- From September 2014 – December 2014 – Study Abroad – classroom based, some cultural learning as well

- January 2015 – May 2015 – Internship or seeking full time employment

- May 2015 – Degree officially conferred. "

Please confirm if this is correct.

They infact say that the University last year has requested 3 yr PGWP for 1 year MBA students as well and CIC granted them 3 yrs PGWP..Not sure how far this is correct. PLease share your valubale thoughts.

Thanks for your help.

1. For MBA you complete more than enough 'credit hours' which makes you eligible for a 3 years PGWP. It does not matter if it's a 15 months or 24 months course. However, you can't say the same thing for a simple 2 year Diploma which lack enough credit hours for a 3 year PGWP.
