My wife is in canada as visitor . she has applied for inland family class spousal sponsorship .while waiting to get work permit and OHIP . I want to purchase short term medical insurance for visitors to canada.

I am looking at manulife or sunlife visitors to canada . which one is good ?

Does this type of insurance cover sickness like cough , cold , flu and muscle pain. We can visit physicians for these type of symptoms under these ?

Insurance typically covers emergencies only. You have to pay out-of-pocket for visits to the doctor for non-emergency issues (like the ones you've described).

There are some insurance policies that cover non-emergency care. However they are quite a big more expensive and have high deductibles. Most of the time you're better off paying for this care yourself and only covering yourself for emergencies with the insurance.

Try these guys - Safe Visit. They were a buck and a half per month for a hundred fifty thousand with a fifty dollar deductible and paid out for the two times I used it (one emergency for infection and another for tests.) Husband lowered it to a hundred a month for one hundred thousand covered with the same deductible.

My wife used one of the companies from this site and had no problems making a claim. https://www.kanetix.ca/travel-visitors-to-canada

Also note that just getting the OWP from inland app I don't think qualifies her for OHIP. From stories I've heard, she would also need a letter from an employer that she's currently working full time.
