Hi!

I received a message stating that my documents have been sent to my country (Jamaica) for future processing on November 29,2017. However I see on my status that they would email me when they started the background check, upon till now I haven't received that.

I was wondering how long does it take for them to do the background check?

And should I contact them or I should give them more time seeing that the holiday might have hold up the process?

No, you should not contact them...you are well within processing times, and the workflow you're seeing is completely normal.

This is a good sign that the file has been sent to the visa office for processing.

The background check is the longest and most laborious part of the process and generally/most often takes months to complete. It is not uncommon to not hear anything from the visa office while this part of the process is ongoing, so don't panic if you don't.
