I did my up front medical on the 15th this month. Yesterday I received a letter from CIC stating: "...further medical tests are needed in order to reach a decision". I was also informed with the same letter that details have been sent to my eMedical file and I should go back to my panel physician. I have 90 days to comply.

Called my DMP and talked to one of the assistants there. She said she never heard of this before. She accessed my file and told me I have to go there this Thursday with the letter from CIC cause the doctor doesn't know what tests I'm missing. She also said that I should go see my family doctor

I tried to explain that in the letter I got, CIC doesn't mention about what tests I need to do, just that they sent the details to my eMedical file.

Now I'm worried. First of all, why do they need further testing? Secondly, how come my DMP is clueless about this? Will it create problems for me and my application?

Any advice or thoughts on this are highly appreciated.

Additional medical tests could be a variety of things, from something as simple as redoing an X-ray because it isn't clear, hard to say what it will be.

I did run into a similar situation as you, they advised my wife to get an additional test done and didn't send us the reason, just contact the doctors office. Luckily for us the doctor was aware so we were able to get the additional tests done. We did end up getting a letter a few weeks later that outlined what the additional tests were, but we had already done them by that point.

I would contact your VO and advise them of the situation, I'm not sure if they have it but you may want to contact the CIC hotline as well and see if they can get you that information or of least provide you some advice. They won't process your application until they receive these tests.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I do not have a VO, because I haven't sent my application yet. I did an up front med exam so I can include it in the application. Now from what I know, the panel physician uploads my medical results into some sort of data base at CIC, where the CIC doctors review it. It was quite quick for them to reply to an exam done 13 days ago.
On the letter I initially received from the doctor, I only had a UMI number, but on the letter from CIC there was an IME number and an UCI number as well. I provided all that to my DMP, but they still have no clue.
Is it possible that CIC didn't send anything yet? Doctor's office accessed my file, and according to her, she doesn't see any data about any further tests.

This is so nerve wrecking. If I'm still alive and mentally healthy by the time I'm done with this whole process, it will be a miracle :p

Oh, and another question. Is this normal that they review your medicals even though I didn't send my application yet? I did the up front exam so I can check it off my list, and planning to send the whole package in mid November once my PCC gets here. Nowhere does it say I have to send the application right after I've done the medical, does it?

I would strongly suggest you get a hold of CIC and give them the UCI number you were given in regards to this letter/email. If you have not yet even sent in your application I have no idea how it would be possible they would even be LOOKING at your medical file yet .... I know I am confused about this one ...

No, I've never heard of them reviewing medicals without an application sent yet and no you don't need to send the application right away. It sounds like maybe they do an initial check when they first receive the file from what you've said.

You should be able to send your application in and still get started with the process as the medical information shouldn't be relevant to the sponsorship approval process and they can still do that part.

I would still contact the cic hotline and ask them as this seems a little strange. The number from in Canada is 1-888-242‑2100

Thank you both for your advice. My husband (the sponsor) and I are living in Germany, doing an outland application. I'm thinking of waiting till Thursday (when my DMP called me in with the letter) and see what they say then. If I can't get a straight answer then, I will ask my mother-in-law who is in Canada, to call the hotline for me.

I'm now also confused about the UCI number that was assigned to me in this letter ???.

Even the website says you won't get a UCI until you apply, very strange.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=777&t=4

Although if you're a glass half full person, you already have a UCI and they are looking into your medical before you even apply, that's moving fast!!! I didn't get my re medical request until 7 months after i applied :)

This is indeed strange. What baffles me even more, is that my UCI number starts with T, as far as I know, that stands for temporary resident application and all the family class UCIs start with F.

This is the letter:

Dear..............

This refers to your application for permanent residence/temporary residence in Canada.

Further medical information is required before a decision can be reached. Details have been sent to your eMedical file regarding the medical information required. Please return to see the Panel Physician who performed your immigration medical examination or to another eMedical enabled Panel Physician. The Panel Physician will arrange for the additional medical tests to be carried out and will forward the results directly to this office.

You have 90 days from the date of this letter to comply with this request.

Please quote your IME number on all correspondence with this office.

Sincerely,
Health Branch

In the link you've pasted it say the UCI number contains 8 digits. Mine starts with T and is followed by 11 digits. Oh God, why is this happening to me? I don't think I'm a glass half full type of person, I think in my case the glass is empty. :(

Why is the VO in London?

I still think you really need to contact CIC and ensure it is actually YOU there are referring to and haven't some how mixed you up with someone else, which sounds almost to be the case here ....

Yup I would definitely call, saying it's from the London office it sounds like it's for someone else.

That was basically the same letter i received when my wife's app was being looked at, after sponsorship approval.

I've been thinking and thinking, and I've come up with a few ideas.

The VO in London is not a regular VO, it is the High Commission of Canada in Europe. What I think happened, is that since I didn't file my application and I don't have my own VO yet, the one in London is assigned temporarily to my medical case. And the UCI number I have starts with T and is followed by 11 digits (a regular UCI no had 8 digits) because it's a temporary UCI number. That makes sense, right?

Now the question remains, why did they review my medical before my application even got sent?

Yup that makes sense. Maybe they review to make sure everything is included when they first get it? Not sure.

When you send your medicals to CIC but you dont have a file number yet ,they make a file just for your medicals and then later add this file to your main PR file.
A medical file has always a 11 digit number and starts with a T. So dony worry, thats the reason behind it :)

Thank you for this, it put my mind at ease.
Tomorrow I have an appointment to go see my DMP regarding the additional tests. If he still has no clue what they are, how can I find out? Should I write to the office that sent me the letter?
