Hey everyone!

Just a question about social assistance effecting common-law sponsorship.

My common-law girlfriend, who will be applying soon to sponsor me for my PR, will be getting MSP Premium soon (a premium assistance program). As it is based on her income (she is self-employed), will this effect our chances of getting me sponsored by her? Is this classed as Government assistance, same as welfare? I had a look online but couldn't find any definite answer one way or the other!

Thank you in advance!!

Ben.

I don't think it will affect her eligibility as a sponsor. I was under MSP premium assistance when I applied for my husband's sponsorship. This is because I had a low income the previous year as I was a student.

And I believe, these government assistance for low income families are not classified as "social welfare", which is the one that could disqualify a person to be a sponsor.
