We started processing your application on January 15, 2013.

Hey guys! I just sent the application yesterday! I was so excited :) Now we want to start the police certificate early to save some time, but my husband is confused as to what to ask for for the SSP Certificate. Does anybody know how it's called in Mexico, Spanish translation... or do the employees all know what it is already ?

Thanks in advance for your help !!
[/quo

The SSP is called secretaria de seguridad publica. When my husband went to the building he asked for this. All he had to do was show his ID and he had the document in a few minutes.
you Have TO show copy of the birth certificate and copy of mexican ID. And btw sending since now the SSP doesn't speed up the process, you still will have to wait until they require you the PGR clearance. that will take couple of weeks to get it. But I mean, just saying!!

@Sylvana Im sure you're right, it sucks that we have to wait for them to request it before being able to pull the PGR back, but eh... What can we do.

Thanks for everybody sending us info, its greatly appreciated. I guess the only thing now is to wait, like everyone else!

My hubby had to get his hair cut to get the precartilla pictures... he is really self-conscious about the shape of his skull and the way he looks now. I feel really bad for him but it will grow back...

Question for anyone who went through this. Do you have to have "military hair" when you go to get the precartilla or just when you get the photos? The reason I ask is they're telling him he has to wait until early March to apply...
Hey, I dont think anyone answered your question yet.
But my spouse had the same problem when he went to get his photos done back in july.
he just had a normal haircut not military, the only problem he had was his sideburns werent short enough.
they didnt have a problem with his hair cute, it was normal, short, spikey, they just complained about the sideburns.
So i dont think you need a military cut, as long as the sideburns and facial hair is clean.
:)

I was just thinking about this actually. The haircut I have in my cartilla picture is not even close to being military, not even short and spiky...it´s "medium" and combed on the side but also, the picture was taken almost 10 years ago so I don´t know if they are being more strict about it now.

Leisa, I hope you have a great immigration week...sending positive vibes your way!

Im not sure about strict in general, but i know they were so strict for his sideburns, they were literally maybe 1cm longer than they should but and they made a huge deal about it, one lady ended up yelling at him in the office. it was ridiculous!!! LOL

Thanks Eduram!! :D
I hope so too! I send a case specific enquiry today since its been 5 weeks since we sent the rcmp. im hopeing we get ppr before we get an answer back from the case specific though. :)

Looks like they don't have requirements on the hair cut beyond 'patillas recortadas.' The specific requirements are:

Code:
"Cinco fotografías recientes (no digitalizadas), de 35 X 45 mm., de frente a color o blanco y negro, con fondo blanco, sin retoque en que las facciones del interesado se distingan con claridad, sin tocado (gorra, sombrero, etc.), sin lentes, con bigote recortado, sin barba, patillas recortadas, sin aretes u otros objetos colocados en el rostro mediante perforaciones, del nacimiento normal del cabello al borde inferior de la barbilla deben medir 21 mm."
http://www.sedena.gob.mx/index.php/tramites-y-servicios/tramites-smn/2568-expedicion-de-cartilla
So, very similar to the PGR photos:

Code:

I actually think it's the opposite - they DON'T 'halt' the PPR for the applicant once they finish up the assessment. IRPA establishes the various requirements that need to be met before a visa is issued so all those elements must be completed prior to issuing. If one applicant gets their PPR faster, it just means CIC and their partners haven't finished up the assessment for the one that is still in process whereas they have for the other one - nothing more, nothing less.

For example, what may seem like that to you from the outside (since they don't necessarily request additional information) may just be extended background or security checks ongoing. Remember, CIC relies on external partners for security and background checks and the timing can vary significantly.
Thanks for this info OhCanadiana. Do you have any more insight into what actually goes on during the application review process? What is the IRPA? And when you say they work with external partners, I'm guessing these partners are local to each country? I'm concerned because here in Nicaragua, things tend to happen verrrrrry sloooowly and if CIC is waiting for Nicaraguan partners to help with the processing/reviewing, I should probably be prepared to wait for a long time.

Hey! By The Way, Can someone please tell me once landed in Canada as Permanent Resident (for the 1st time), HOW LONG approx. it takes to be in immigration ( where they verify your address in Canada, etc). I need to know how many minutes aprox Am I gonna spend with them and What kind of questions they are gonna ask me, because I have. connecting flights so tight, that's why I'm asking...I arrive from Mexico city to Vancouver at 10:40, and my flight to Calgary is at 12:10, considering that I have to be at least 1 hour prior to my flight, and document my luggage, I wouldn't like to miss my flight!!, so If somebody knows.. how long do you usually spend with the officer at the border when you land as a PR for first time?, just to know if I'm gonna make it. thanks!!
