I am feeling a bit bummed out. I was looking up how my husband could get an Ontario license and it doesn't look good. I think he might have to start from scratch which means he has to be accompanied by me or someone else for one year before driving independently.

Being undocumented means he cannot get a California license. He did get an Oregon license because they didn't require a social security number back then but it is expired although I think he had it for 8-10 years. He still has it and a driver's record but I am not sure he can exchange it to an Ontario license because it is expired. =(

I am not sure how this will affect him getting a job.

I dont really know for sure how ontario works.

but I know in BC if he had a Mexico license. or an oregon license. he would be able to get a BC license.
but he would need to take the road test. not start from scratch. or anyhting like that. but he would still have to pass a road test than they would give him a BC license.

again im sure its different in ontario.

but he may be able to use the oregon license to make it alot easier than starting from scratch! even if its expired.

i dont think he will have to start from scratch if he has held a license before even if its expired.

not 100% sure. but its work a try. :)

good luck!!

Hey guys. I am starting to get a little worried. After submitting the SSP on June 29th to the Canadian embassy in Mexico, we still have not heard anything about my hubby's application. I sent an email to them a few days ago but have not gotten a reply. We are not sure what is going on. Just wanted to vent! Thanks.

No problem! lol

Yeah I guess it depends what they will do since he doesn't have a valid license at the moment. Thankfully we ordered his official record from Oregon so hopefully that helps. I wanted to call but it is too late. I know he is going to be super stressed since he is the supporter. I work online but I stay home with our little girl.

I understand your worry but I am sure there isn't a problem. Perhaps other files are holding the officer up or someone is on vacation. I really wish we could call or that they would email back. It is like torture, not cool. I guess just hold on a little longer, you'll get PPR soon.

haha :)

yeah. thats a good idea to have his record of proof, that will be helpful. I think if they make him start from scratch that would be ridiculous. i hope they will take the expired license into account!. its hard to say when all the provinces are soo different!!

yeah i can see that being stressful! what city will you be living in again?
when me and my hubby were in BC it was stressful for him to because he never had a license in mexico or anywhere so he had to start from scratch, like if he was 14 again and hes 26! so he hated it because he knew how to drive. and his job was offering him a promotion and raise but he needed a license for it. so yeah it was very stressful for him aswell.

so i hope the license thing works out!! and doesnt cause to many problems!
;D

I know when we went to go and get my spouses license in Ontario we were missing a license in between the two he has, example he has one 2007-2008, and one 2010-2012 type of thing. Instead of giving of the G, they gave us the go ahead for the G2. Hopefully they will do the same for you!

I hope so. The website says you must show a valid license. We will see. I decided not to mention this to him....he is already having a hard time leaving.

While we´re on the topic of driver´s licences, I have a question...I was going to look into this but maybe somebody here knows.

Last year my alberta driver´s licence was going to expire on my birthday in september. So I had to fax in some special paperwork in order to renew it from Mexico. But you can only do this once and it is only valid for one year.

So now my driver´s licence is going to expire in september again, but I can´t do the paperwork from last year. I don´t think I will be back in Canada by the beginning of september to renew it on time...So what happens?

If it expires do I have to re-do the road test or is there some way I can get a new one without a test?

wow thats pretty good!. i was expecting alot longer.
i guess depends on the case.
but this is the third arc i have heard of thats been about 2-2.5 months! :D

did you end up getting an interview too or not?

sorry for all the questions we are gunna need an arc aswell.
to be honest with you , I was expecting it to be longer then this as well but thank god it wasn't. Yes we were asked for the interview but not for arc purpose, it was to proof the genuinity of the relationship. And I don't mind you asking question, I understand. Because when I used to search about arc timeline and did not find anything or much about it, I use to get really frustrated and depressed so I completely understand you. If you have any other question feel free to ask. :)

One question, what came first? Was it the ARC or the police certificates? I'm just trying to get an idea for example if you handed the PGR and all that, how long after were you requested to submit the ARC?

I've gotten a lot of conflicting responses from CIC. First they told me that I didn't need one, that there was an error in the system saying I needed one (lol yeah right). Then months later when I asked again, I was told that I would indeed need one, but that I wouldn't have to pay for it. And I haven't asked again out of fear of opening Pandora's box.

hey!!
i am from alberta and i have an alberta license too
if you cant renew your license before it expires.
it just means you cant drive with it.

BUT you dont have to redo any testing!! :D
you just go in and renew it whenever you get a chance! no worries you wont have to redo any tests! :)
