Wow. Just wow. Thanks for telling me about this. I am going to complain to my MP. But I am very happy that you have been asked for this document and I hope it's a sign that you are close to receiving your PR.

To those just coming to the thread, my partner and I applied outland through Buffalo and provided a Constancia. In October they sent us a letter asking us to get an Informe. We are still waiting for it and are just praying that we will get it and PR before his medicals expire next month. :( Meanwhile everyone else who applied through Buffalo when we did was approved months ago.

But seeing how in your case CIC asked for the constancia, what should people who are just applying now do? Should they get an informe for Buffalo and a constancia for Mexico City? Should they wait to see which document is requested? (Although in that case they could be left waiting for months longer than they would have otherwise while the document is obtained.) Should they try to provide both? We want to play by the rules, but we can't comply when CIC won't tell us what the rules are.
MexiCana, I just saw that you have updated "Decision Made" on your profile. How did this situation get solved? I'm curious about if your MP could help your Constancia be accepted at Buffalo.
And I'm very glad you finally heard back from them! Congratulations!

Thanks bonbon9! I am pretty excited but holding off on celebrating just now. Our e-CAS has changed to "Decision made" but we don't actually know at this point what the decision is. The letter they sent to us when they asked for the informe de datos registrales said "We believe we will be in a position to determine your application without an interview. . ." So, I am hoping that that is a sign pointing to yes.

Anyway, I wrote to my MP after talking to another Mexican friend who is applying for PR as a skilled worker. The lawyers at his employer helped him prepare the application. He needed to submit an informe de datos registrales, but instead of sending the request to CIC Mexico and waiting 3-5 months, he completed a carta poder and a relative was able to obtain the informe on his behalf in about one week!

Then I was really ticked, because if there is a faster way of obtaining the informe, it should be widely publicized. That was when I wrote to my MP. I haven't heard back from her or anyone from her office and I wrote 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Once I have the decision, if it's an approval I'm going to write to her again and ask her what she did, if anything. I will also order my CAIPS notes again out of curiosity just to see what it says. I'll post what I find out.

But I think the way to avoid the delays we experienced is for Mexicans or people who have lived in Mexico who are applying through Buffalo to just send the informe request to CIC Mexico at the same time that you send your application to CIC Mississauga. By the time Mississauga approves the sponsorship (4-6 weeks) and Buffalo gets around to assessing your application, they will likely have the informe. If we had not made that initial error we would never have been in this situation.

But, if you apply though CIC Mexico and your home address is listed as being in Mexico (whether you are physically there or not), I think a constancia is the way to go.

Hello,

We are going to apply inland, my wife is Mexican.
Is there someone in the board that has requested the "constancia" in Mexico and applied inland.
My main concern is that they will ask for the "informe" instead of the "constancia"
And if you got the "constancia" did you have to get a letter from CIC to request it.

We are thinking about getting the "constancia" before we send our application.

Thanks

Another question about the "constancia"
If you get it personally, how does it work for the fingerprints?
Do you get it done at the same time you make the request in person?

Thanks

@ Islenio.

The Constancia de Antecedentes Registrales (CAR) needs to be applied for in Mexico city direct and personally. You do need a letter from CIC, it's useless to just show up. It's useless to also show up without all the papers they ask for (detailed in the CIC letter), and the pictures they request (filiacion... I have no idea what that really means) are also very particular, and they will reject your application without the proper pictures. Luckily all photographic studios in Mexico know what they are.

One more thing to remember for the CAR, is that every document you take to them must be in both original and photocopy. They will keep only the photocopies but they will check that the photocopies are true to the original. And finally, make sure you take 2 IDs, because you need to leave one at the front desk and they will request another one (with photocopy) upstairs.

Regarding the fingerprints, they will point you to the place you need to go to get them done (it's not the same building). You may want to call a cab for this one.

I don't know if it's in your best interests to make the paperwork for one or the other before hand, because well, for the Informe de Antecedentes Registrales (IAR) you need:
1. To be outside of Mexico
2. To do the fingerprints and photographs yourself

And maybe they'll make you do them again. Some times they're very persnickety down here.

For the CAR, you need the embassy to request it and without that letter from the embassy you won't go very far.

That's the thing, if the embassy requests one and you started the paperwork for the other you just lost like 3-4 months.

On the plus side, the CAR is relatively fast, but it also expires very soon.

I was just checking trackitt.com, and it seems us who applied in september may still have a month or two to go, I have 147 days accumulated and most of the relevant approval/denial dates are between 170-200 days of processing.

That's encouraging in the sense that we know not to desperate if there are no changes any time soon, but I feel discouraged too because... AWWW 2 more months ??? :-\ ?! ...

Hello guys I have an update finally got the letter requesting the constancia de datos registrales luckily I was in mexico and did almost all myself I even went to the embassy to get a duplicate of the letter cause the original was in canada the people in the embassy very helpful got my letter same day! Be careful at the pgr because that people is not very helpful bring everything they request or you don't get the letter make sure the photos are correct and if you are not there send your fingerprints other than that everything is fine long working hours... My question now is is this the last step in my process?? They did not required anything else but the constancia. What's next guys? Good luck and if you need more info write me back!!

Very interesting GT25 we are waiting in Mexico for the letter from the embassy telling us how to get my husbands last federal police certificate. I am hoping it wont take long to mail it within Mexico. I think the next step for you is waiting to see if they want an interview or hey may wave it. Good luck keep us posted.

solosunseeker - I AM SO SORRY to hear you had to go through all of that!!!! My heart is in my throat wondering how many of us are going to have to go through a similar horror show before we know what is going on?! My portion was approved early November and we have heard *nothing* from the Mexico City office yet. I would have thought some sort of acknowledgement of receipt might have been received by now at least. I emailed the office to follow up after Christmas and received a short reply saying we would hear from them once the file was opened. Which did not reassure me whatsoever given that we don't even know for certain that they even have the file! Makes me wonder after reading your story. Oy the worry!!!! Any updates for anyone else waiting to hear from Mexico City office?
Hi I am applying in Mexico city My application was received in Mexico City in Oct I did not hear anything from them not Ecas update I email them and asked about my case and they send me all the info in November now I can see that Im in process since Jan 5 2011 so just keep aa eye in others applications and if you don't hear anything when you think you should just contact them they will give you an answer just be clear and polite that is my advice! Good luck
