Good evening,

My file was transfer from buffalo to los angeles on dec 1 2011, I got medical requested on April 24. But they also ask for "Original Federal police certificate". I follow the steps to request the federal certificate from outside Mexico and I get my medicals done as well. But do I need the state police clearances as well? They didn't metion it but I was wondering if you guys can help me figure this out. I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

Thank you,
Miranda
So we can help you, can you copy/paste the exact text of the request they made (delete/mask all personal details first)?

Thank you for your answer OhCanadiana,
This exactly what they ask:

"Original Federal police certificate or criminal clearance from the police authorities in Mexico.
NOTE: Mexico Federal police certificates on file are not acceptable. Please follow tha instructions available on our website on how to apply for a Mexican Federal police certificate for applicants who are outside Mexico."

Theoretically, yes. 1 & 2 should be simultaneous.

Required disclaimer: you know how much to rely on e-case ;)
I'll second that. Checking eCas has been a complete waste of energy in our case. Let emails be your guide.

So I just got back from handing in all the remaining documents at the embassy. It was pretty fast, I was in and out within 15 minutes.

How long do you guys think it would take for them to contact me? a month? two months? I'm giving them two months before I start harassing them with emails! :p

For those who have gone to get the pgr recently, how old does the birth certificate have to be? 3 or 6 months? We are debating when to order this, because as nice as it would be to get it in 6 days, well.. It's Mexico and we have our doubts, lmao.

Gracias a todos!
Hey I´m glad you figured out a better way to get the birth certificate! When we went to the PGR they told my husband that the birth certificate should be less than 6 months old!

@edgarsitow congrats! I would give them 2 months, they seem to take 2 months all the time! :D

It used to be that it had to be issued in the same calendar year as the application. The instructions no longer state this in the new website so I don't know whether it's an oversight or they've relaxed that requirement.
Geez i hope it is, so even if you have an older birth certificate it wont work, you have to apply for a new one ? how bizzare

Lol, it is bizarre and a total time consuming, expensive pain in the butt thing to get. The original birth certificate won't work for the PGR, it has to be one issued less than 6 months ago.

So six months before applying for the PGR, now i am i correct in the understanding that we can not go apply for the PGR until we recieve the request from the embassy or is this something that can be done before hand, I assume it also has a time limit on it ... anyone know ? And am I also correct in thinking that my hubby can have a family member pick this up for him and he can apply from GDL ?

You're correct. You can't apply for the PGR document until you have the letter from the embassy. The time limit on the document is 30 days.

Also as a quick tip, my state (Baja California) has an online service where you can pay by credit card and they mail you birth certificates to wherever you want (certified mail) You guys might want to check on that and it might save you a trip or two.

The reason (my own opinion) why birth certificates have to be fairly new, is probably because old birth certificates in Mexico used to be handwritten, they looked horrible (think a doctor writing you a prescription!) As an example, I have one with me from 2009 and another one from 2012, and they do look a bit different.

Ok so i have 2 copies of his birth certificate right here but the heck if I can figure out what the issue date is, anyone know where that is ?? They are both typed not written so assume they are newer...

I think they do have that service in GDL, is it a little kiosk that you go to ?

Ok never mind I found it, the 1st one was the original from birth, and the other was issued in 2001 so guess we need to get another one ! Anyone know the cost of this ?
