I am getting close to passing 14 months of waiting and with one year of no updates.
I contacted my MP a few weeks ago and I got the same usual 'no update, still in progress' kind of response. Except, this time they also said (for the very first time) that my application is non-routine (even though NON of their reasons on their website applies to me). They said they cannot provide the reason why my application is non-routine.

My MP told me to wait 2-3 months again before reaching out for another update.
So, it seems like there is no end in sight for me at this time.
At what point do you guys say enough is enough and take the legal route?

MP’s are of no use. They dont do anything apart from giving you the same update that is visible to you on your application status dashboard. What worked for me is when I put in a access to information request with CBSA and my application started moving after that. But with your application deemed non-routine, not sure if putting in request with CBSA will be of any help. May be give it a try and wait for a month before exploring other options??

I think my background check is with CSIS. I have requested access of information twice in the past year and I have got the same response which basically says "We are still doing your security clearance, we can't give you more details due to confidentiality and safety reasons."
I will try with CBSA as well. Thanks!

Type: Online application
Location: Fredericton, New Brunswick
Application: Single

Application sent: 28 April, 2023
AOR: 15 May, 2023
Test Taken : 16 June, 2023
Test Completed :20 June, 2023
Fingerprint Requested :
This is a big story
I got this request for the first time on October 2023, in Fredericton, this can be done through the police station only. I completed the request & waited for 3 weeks and got the result back. I sent it to the address via Canada Post that was given in the request letter that I got through email. Nothing happened till December.
Around 22-23 Dec, 2023, I got another letter saying that I didn't submit my fingerprint and must do so ASAP to continue processing my application. I took the finger print again and sent it accordingly again.
Then, I got an email with a letter saying that the fingerprint request did not have a photo and so it is not valid and I need to redo the request again with a photo this time.I called the Fredericton Police department again and said I got this response from the CIC and they said it was a new change from CIC and the CIC dod not inform of this change to the Fredericton Police Department & they took the fingerprint again (they did it for free this time since it was a mistake from CIC). I got the results back in February finally and sent it to CIC that was accepted.
BG Completed: March 6, 2024
Prohibitions Completed
: March 12, 2024
Physical Presence Completed: March 12, 2024
Language Skills Completed: March 12, 2024
Citizenship Oath Updated: June 17, 2024

Oath ceremony is scheduled

I think there are 2 things to note:
1) Fingerprints requested - that automatically makes your file a non-routine file. Yet, like I've said probably dozens of times here, the "non-routine" designation is used whenever it's convenient to IRCC, so it probably means nothing.
2) BG not completed - So this may be CBSA or CSIS that's causing the delay. GCMS notes will tell you more on which one is it. You can also request for CSIS notes at the same time you request for GCMS notes, just to save you some time.

Do you know which office is handling your file? If you don't, the GCMS notes will tell you. May be able to shine some light on why is it slow too...
I got the GCMS notes anything specific to look for?

So the online tracker would likely tell you steps other than Oath as completed or in progress, but that's not entirely true. The GCMS notes would actually tell you if a specific step has started or not. Other things to note are which office is handling your file and if any other agencies are working on your file (eg. CBSA, CSIS, RCMP).

I submitted application in May 2023. AOR Jun 2023. Test passed in Sep and Physical presence and language passed in Oct 2023 after interview. Background and prohibitions are still pending. This is so frustrating for me seeing everyone else in my batch already had ceremonies. It has started to have a mental toll on me and is affecting my everyday life including my performance at work. Don't know what I can do. This is so frustrating :(

Sorry to hear this. All I can say is that you are definitely not alone! There are many that are still waiting. Some applied even before us!
