The PR application is sent in. At this point now we will have her visit for 6 months, and THEN apply for a visitor visa/extension. Being visa exempt countries, we dont have to worry about this until that 6 month time limit comes up :).

Based on how long CIC is saying, I am assuming that sponsor approval will come through before we end up reaching the 6 month time period. Either way it doesn't really matter though. As long as its done legally :D
That's awesome that she is from a visa exempt country. Makes life much easier.

yeah, taking the outland route while being from a visa-exempt country is definitely the nicest way of going through this. i would've chosen inland but who would've given me a tourist visa? :(

Guys what if I'll go out of Canada for lets say 6 months, will that affect our application? I'm the sponsor btw and we just submitted our documents like a month ago. Should I inform CiC?

are you a citizen or permanent resident of canada? sponsors who are citizens are not required to be in canada while the application is processing, sponsors who are permanent residents are. it is not necessary to notify cic, unless you want to change your mailing address. once SA is received, all communicaiton will go to the applicant anyway.

You can still go for short trips but staying for 6 months might show the CIC that you are not interested in staying in Canada. I guess someone who have already done it would be in a better position to answer.

I wanna go back also but not for 6 months may be for 3 months

I see what you mean thanks, but I'm kinda wondering what are their means of tracking you down if you're out of Canada for a certain number of months.

I am not sure if they have a way of tracking you down. May be by checking CBSA records or asking you for updated documents (lease documents, recent payslips, tax notice of assessment etc)

Hey all,

So my husband and I sent off our application on May 23rd. My husband is Canadian and I'm a US citizen by birth. We're applying outland. I completed my medical on May 21st.

My medical examiner said that he created a file for me when he did my medical check (he is part of the online system) and told me that the number attached to it would be my application number throughout. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, can I use that number to check on my application status online? Also, what's the deal with AORs? Do most people get them? Will they give us a file number?

Thanks in advance for any and all replies. And good luck to all of us applying in May!

It might be the case but I dont think so that you will be able to check your application status online until you receive the AOR or Sponsor Approval from CIC.

You will definitely get a File number

I found a website which hosts an excel file of all immigration(PR) application details processed or received in each month and year. They do have the Trending data.

http://data.gc.ca/data/en/dataset/5c003561-ce36-4881-a5a4-c30f9f456690

I am not sure if anyone else has posted this, but i found this very informative(so wanted to share with you all) as we will come to know the volume of applications that are submitted each month from different contries and can estimate how much time it might take, just to keep ourselves on the curious edge.
