Hi,

Anyone knows how to inform CIC about a change in family.(newborn)

I requested a birth certificate which will take up to 6-8 weeks from now to receive. Right now I only have the discharge papers from the hospital. Should I send in those papers as a proof of birth or should I wait until I receive the birth certificate?

Where should I send the notification?In Sydney?No AOR yet.. Is there any specific form to be used as a notification?

In a forum like this, where we are all on pins and needles and everybody is so stressed out, its nice to see a post which indicates hope and future --- for thats what a newborn baby is.

Congrats!

You have to send a letter along wit a Birth Certificate to the visa office your file transeferred or will be transferred!

Do you live in Ontario? May I ask you how long did it take you to receive a Birth Certificate? I applied on June 9, 2012 and it said it will take approximately 6-8 weeks plus 15 business days to be mailed. It seems to be a long waiting period for me.

I received within 2 weeks. Yes I live in Ontario. Don't worry it will take less than it mentioned.
I didn't have any file number or AOI so how could I mention about it ?

Hi,

I haven't received AOR or file number either..name and date of birth should be enough to match it to our application..Since the Buffalo office is closed I'll send the notification to Ottawa...

I need some help here as I'm confused regarding my childs Citizenship....I have received a Birth Certificate for my newborn and it does not state his citizenhip status...I thought that if the child was born in Canada he/she will be a Candian Citizen automatically..However, I have read on a CIC website today that if someone was born in Canada after February 14, 1977 and neither of their parents were at least permanent residents, is not a Canadian Citizen...So my child is not a Canadian Citizen? It does make a big difference.....I mean I have to apply for permanent resdency for him as well in my application? I thought I will only have to inform Immigration of his birth?

Hi Islington,

A citizenship in Canada can be show by one of two documents: 1- birth certificate in Canada 2- a citizenship card.
After we get our PR we can apply for citizenship to get the card. Your son is canadian by default before his birth country is Canada.

If you read the FAQ's on CIC website under citizenship; proof of citizenship; it states, In general, if you were born in Canada, you are a Canadian citizen. This may not apply if you were born in Canada and at the time of your birth, one of your parents was in Canada with diplomatic status and your other parent was neither a Canadian citizen nor a permanent resident.

So you see, unless your spouse is a diplomat and you are not a PR or you are a dimplomat and your spouse is not a PR, this does not apply to you.
