Hi All,

In Documents upload section , description given for " Marriage License/Certificate " as below :

"The marriage must be valid under the law of the country where it took place and under Canadian law."

Why they are mentioning "Under Canadian law " ?

Does this means , do i need to notarize my Indian Marriage Certificate ? Please clarify.

I requested and got issued an international marriage certificate from Croatian Registrar's Office for that purpose.

Not sure how that works in India, but maybe it could be done there as well?

My wife and I are Indians. We met in London and had a civil marriage in London with marriage vows and 2 witnesses. The civil marriage in London is recognised all over the world but India did not recognise it as it took place outside the Indian jurisdiction and my wife and I are Indian passport holders. Therefore, we had our London civil marriage registered in the Indian High Commission in London with no marriage vows but 3 witnesses as it was merely a registration for recognition in India. Our church marriage in India is only recognised by the church and not legally. We have a church marriage certificate which we will use for religious purposes like baptism of kids when we have them. We use our Indian registration for banks, etc in India and for everything else we use our London marriage certificate.

Certain kinds of marriage are illegal in Canada. Canada will not recognize a marriage that it deems to be illegal (e.g. forced marriage, child marriage, polygamy). No need to worry if it was a marriage between (only) two consenting adults.

Ohhh....Man....You scared me... :-[

I found the below description in the CIC website....

If the applicant married outside Canada, a copy of a legal certificate issued by the country, the territory or the region where the marriage took place must be provided.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/express/intake-complete.asp

As per this , my Indian Marriage Certificate is valid. I believe no notarization required. I registered my marrige in India.

My application got straight away cancelled because I only submitted my marriage affidavit. I did not submit my urdu marriage certificate. Now I am going to get it translated and submit both of them. Also, I will be submitting my passport along with my spouse passport as we have each other name in the spouse section and my kids passport (name of father and mother mentioned in passport ) for a strong case. As we have our name on each of our passport. Is there anyone who have got more input on this ?
