Hi. I'm from philippines. I am under TWP. I'm finished with my medical exam and just waiting for my Visa. I expect to receive it this month. My marital status in my application is Single. 2 months ago, my girlfriend found out that she's pregnant. When we informed her parents, they want us to get married soon. My question is, what if I marry her after I received my Visa.

1. Do I need to inform CEM immidiately and wait for my Marriage Certificate and submit it to CEM before leaving? - This will take months.
2. Do I need to inform CEM while I'm still here in Manila or I'll just inform them after I landed in Canada - will this be considered as misinterpretation?
3. She will give birth this coming March - Do I need to inform the embassy that I will add dependent though child is not born yet?
4. Will the embassy require me to send the Marriage Certificate and other documents? - This will cause delay.

oh boy, I'm so confused.

I have 2 options: which is more practical and advisable?

1. Go to canada as single then go back here after a year or 2 then get married. My plan is to apply for PR after 2 years.
2. Marry her before leaving Manila.

My employer wants me to be there by January so this is crucial. Hope someone can give me advice to this.

Hello guys, almost the same case as yours I got pregnant while waiting for my medicals under the LIC program, got my visa June of '08 and then I informed them that I'm 7 months pregnant as I'm scared that I might not be able to get the baby if I didn't declare it, canadian embassy in manila informed me to send them a letter of explanation why I didn't tell them early on plus the family information page adding the name of my newborn and his birth certificate. I did all this before I left for canada.I wanted to make sure that I included them in the initial application so that I wouldn't have any worries when I submitted for my PR. Hope this helps!

If you get married before you land in Canada, you need to inform the Canadian Embassy in Manila. It is important you inform them as soon as your status changes. You don't want to have any issues later when it's time to apply for PR or to sponsor a spouse. If you withold any information, you can be charged of misinterpretation.

You need to apply as married no ifs or buts. It doesn't matter how long it will take to get the marriage certificate, you have to declare them. Failure to declare your real status can be deemed as misinterpretation and you will have a lot of issues later.
