Some people are still seeing movement just not as fast as before and I doubt it will change in summer most of the stuff they do now will be around with people who do pr apps doing it from home and not in officeses now

I highly doubt general immigration file clerks are working from home, processing our PR applications. It may be something that will have time be considered in the near future, since our gov recently announced that full control COVD in Canada may take 1.5 to 2 years.

I think the movement people are seeing are from OUTCAN VOs and not CPCs and CIOs in Canada.

On issue of controlling covid I think most people underestimate the number of antivrual drugs we have many are being tested on covid 19 and only one needs to work to change the dynamics of the curve drastically I think this summer/fall we will have a good list of drugs that can help treat covid 19 and prevent many from needing ventilators etc will it stop it? No but will it make it manageable and lesson hostpial load etc yes

I have to disagree with your first point, this should be an essential service. These people should be considered citizens since they are already considered family, but that being said I know there's bigger issues at hand and expect delays, but I feel family class immigration should still be considered essential. A year is a long a time to be apart under normal circumstances. Now with this virus going on I really don't expect to see my wife again within the next 3 years.... that's almost longer then I've known her, and it makes me wonder if other relationships can survive this.

I think saying 3 years is a bit extreme lol. They will have to figure this all out within the next few months. Like someone else said I think it’s just going to be a 2-3 month delay. Let’s all stay positive and think positively!

this virus is going to be an issue for nothing less then 18 months. Immigration has basically been shut down world wide. Our government doesn't give a flying fuck about your spouse if he/she isnt from here, add at least a year to their expected time.

1) OF COURSE this is not an essential service (as much as it pains me personally) - although here we have to underline this doesn't mean it isn't important to government, but not essential during a public health emergency. They'll get to it when they can. Important is not essential.
2) The infrastructure and process issues you refer to are not so easy to resolve, particularly when there are hundreds of other short-term priorities that need to be dealt with first - by which I mean the government has limited IT and related resources. Even if everyone could work from home (equipment) they'd also need to redesign and implement new processes and systems to support that. Scaling up the VPN network alone is a big job.

Government services are outlined as essential, so it's safe to assume that immigration still works. However, working at home might be impossible for those who deal directly with applications due to the privacy concerns.

I am in the process of getting security clearance internally in the government and only those officers who still come to the office can work on the clearance. Privacy issues are taken very seriously, I think

Feel free to disagree with me about what should be considered essential, but the reality is that it is not. Keep in mind that even some important medical services - in some provinces, all non-urgent - have been suspended.

And under Canadian law they are not 'considered citizens' even if there is some recognition that they are family.

Now, the fact that it is not considered essential does not mean the files will not get processed. Just more slowly. Government is working, but not all services get top priority. And as discussed elsewhere here, it is not so simple as "everyone can just take their files home." I can make guesses about how long this might go on and how government will adapt to provide more services even in current conditions (or future as this progresses), but would only be a guess.

Can you tell me your timeline? My application is in cpc-m. 2 months since i submitted my medicals. I wonder how l9ng do i have to wait. I guess my app is undergoing security check as well. Dnt know if this is still happening during covid times!

Recently they announced that new spousal applications are still being accepted. I dnt think they are up for creating a huge backlog. Processing sure is happening...i saw in one of the threads,somebody got DM day before yesterday. I just hope these people understand our plight and fasten the processing.

They should move to electronic submission for Outland applications. You download the docs, print them, scan them, upload them and so on (or electronically sign etc). I'm guessing it would make it easier for people doing submissions, plus reduce one step in the office at Immigration (I'm assuming they scan these submissions in when received). Less waste of paper too.

When I wrote "security clearance" I meant a different kind of clearance. I was talking about clearance for a job in the government: secret clearance, top secret clearance etc. What I observed was that the officers can only work on the clearance if they are still working on-site. That's why I assume that the same procedure would apply to application processing in the immigration offices

I would assume so . If they had to stop processing PR they would have clearly mentioned it. Moreover, they get lots of revenue from Students and PR applications. Hence, its still processing. Also, Express Entry draws are still going on. That is also a good indication that they are still processing . .

Yeah..but all i wanna be sure of was if they are actually issuing PPR for spousal applications. Since this article says processing continues for those exempt applications too..i am hoping to see some moment soon...fingers crossed!
