I heard from them, I got email this morning with my UCI and Application# stating that my application was received on March 2nd. No SA yet but it shows it is progressing.

Gabba! i guess its a good sign though.

Why do some get processed faster ? I thought it would be like a first come first serve kind of thing

nahhh I think your just really lucky. Mine was received March 16th so my lawyer hasn't received any news yet from them.
Still waiting....

Application sent 4th March, 2016
CIC emailed that they have receive my application (AOR1) - 1st April, 2016

They said that they received my applciation on 2016/03/04.

Now waiting for SA patiently.

Keeping fingers crossed.

Is the current average time 6.5 or 9.3 months? Seeing different averages relating to London visa office. And is there a chance my application will be processed entirely in Canada?

James since you filed on 31/03/2016 then you are in March Family. These details can be updated in the 2016 Outland Spreadsheets. You may want to follow up with the London thread just to compare the processing times which for now may be even less than 6 months considering how things are moving. I think its only sponsorship assessment and approval that is done in Canada. After this the file is transferred to your visa office.
