Sadly our application was returned today for something so stupid.... of no fault of mine ...but I cant blame CIC too, they were following procedure...

my passport's expiry date on the biographical page says 2009, but on page 5 of the passport there is a stamp of passport extension.... this is how the indian consulate in NY stamped..... obviously the CIC officer didnt turn pages to find an expiry and returned the whole family's application :-[ :(

So Im planning to write a letter explaining this whole thing and a color copy of that page 5 and sending the package back tomorrow, one question I have for you guys:

do I need to refill the application form and pay fees....there was a user on the forum who's application was returned due to a silly error, what did you do, please advise.....

regards
Jacaranda

yes I submitted all pages of my passport, the CIC officer could have spent an extra minute to turn pages, he/she would hav seen the passport extension.

That's unfortunate. You don't need to refill the application and pay fees again. Just include the additional documents and explanation letter as you mentioned and send it back. Good Luck!

This is first time I am hearing they stamped a passport extension in the expired passport. They sent a new passport when I renewed mine in 2008 at NY.

Sorry to hear that your application was returned. You should have submitted the biographical and the extension pages only as requested.

Provide photocopies of the biographical pages of all passports and/or travel documents (valid and cancelled) for the relevant four (4) year period immediately preceding the date of your application,

Also, provide photocopies of any renewal pages of the passport(s)/travel document(s).

you don't need valid passport you just need to show the last 4 years
mine expired last december and I wrote in my cover letter that I don't have any immediate plans to leave canada and Im not willing to renew my current passports cause I don't plan to use that citizenship ever again
they accepted it

Ok now I'm nervous. We needed a cover letter?
