This may be a little too personal but I'm wondering why so many couple are living apart while they apply for their visas. My understanding was that my husband could wait in canada until the visa was approved but could not work, even with an Outland application. Is that because japan is visa exempt? And why can't you wait in the Philippines until the visa is approved? Is it better for the sponsor to be in canada? Just out of curiosity.

Yes, Japan is VISA Exempt is the reason your husband could come, however he would still need a visitors VISA from what I understand(VISA would be formality for him) Spouses from the Philippines is a different story, high rate of Visit Visa rejection because many cannot show significant ties to homeland. If they are married to a Canadian even worse chances of VISA ( stronger ties to Canadian Spouse than homeland) CIC is worried about overstaying VISA.
Many have no choice but to wait for process to be complete.
I think the main reason for higher visit rejection rate is many before tried to overstay. Many poorer countries of the world have the same problem when trying to visit.
We could move to the Philippines but for economic reasons many cannot afford the luxury.I have visited many times, more people there than jobs.
Makes no difference where sponsor is.
But a year holiday in the Philippines would be nice, wish I could afford. LOL

It seems a bit complicated, but this is what you want to read:

I will be attempting to do this with my wife (a Japanese citizen) in August.

Thank you for the info. But actually, we plan to wait until his visa comes through. I had just read somewhere it was possible.

I got my PPR Apr 28th, Apr 30th my E-CAS showed medicals received and since then there hasn't been a word. My wife is getting so anxious as am I, but at least she's still working so she's not sitting around day in and day out waiting. At least with her working its not as painful going through this last step.

Me too Step, ours finally moved into inprocess as of June 3rd (just showed on E-CAS today) so hopefully not much longer. They have everything, appendix A and all that stuff so hopefully it won't be much longer to see a decision made. Not sure whats all involved with the inprocess stage, but hopefully sooner then later.

I think all CEM does at this stage is review the info, ours was only 9 days in process before PPR. But we are still waiting for the "magical" COPR.
I think that DM will be your next step or VISA might just show up at your wife's address.
Good Luck

If I may ask, why did it take so long? I've noticed that you had your PPR back on February 17th. Oh my, this must of really been very trying for you. Good Luck! You should be getting more good news soon.

Wow! Almost sounds as if your paperwork got lost in the shuffle. Well alls good now though, now that you see on your E-CAS things are starting to move, that is a very, very good sign.

Maybe, and i think that May applicants are the most affected applicants since they prioritized the victims of typhoon yolanda.. on the spreadsheet we are averaging 3-4 months from PPR to DM..
