I KNOW ITS TAX DEADLINE. BUT IM WONDERING DOES ANYBODY HERE CLAIM EXPENSES OR SUPPORT PAYMENTS MADE FOR THEIR SPOUSE WHO DID NOT LAND IN CANADA FOR THE 2013 TAX SEASON..

ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED..

mY WIFE DID NOT WORK IN 2013 IN THE PHILIPPINES SO I WAS HER SUPPORT THE WHOLE YEAR

UFILE DOES NOT ASK FOR TOTAL SUPPORT PAYMENTS PROVIDED TO HER SO AND I HAVE NO INCOME TO DEDUCT ON THAT BASIC AMOUNT WERE SUPPOSE TO FILL ON LINE 303

ANYONE HAVE INPUT ON THIS?
All I could claim was the basic exemption for spouse.( had accountant do my taxes)
I don't believe CRA will allow you to deduct support payments, just the spouse exemption is allowed.

Agreed. Claim the 'basic personal exemption for spouse'. Yes, at that time I put $0 income for her.

I think I need to have a chat with my bookkeeper. He told me to wait for 2014 when my wife is here to claim her. If I had of known that, I would have claimed her as my spouse with zero income.

I dealt with this issue and spoken with H&R Block. Yes, you can claim your non-resident spouse if you have proof that you supported her/him. I submitted Western Union receipts and that was enough for me to claim my spouse.

Furthermore, please see these two links:
http://www.howlandtax.com/articles/nonresident-spouse.htm
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns300-350/303/menu-eng.html

As you can see in the second link, the requirement to claim your spouse is "You can claim this amount if, at any time in the year, you supported your spouse or common-law partner and his or her net income was less than $11,038."

Thanks for the links, I guess my taxes were done right.
Can choose basic spouse exemption or support payments which ever is greater.

I was asked to send a document just last week to the embassy, it was via a courier to the first address that you mentioned. The other address is if you send it through snail mail (regular mail) but I would if I were you send it via a courier like DHL to the first address you mention family reunification unit, at least you can track it and know when it arrives.

I got my refund to day and the spousal amount really boosted my return as much as 2000 dollars
