I thought truesmils'e wife did that flight and she did not have to de-plane. Think about how much hassle it would cause with everybody going off and on the plane. Plus the carrier is not running as domestic within Canada. I don't even think it's licensed for that. In Toronto it will say Philippine Airlines flight 000 arriving from Manila.

But not if it land in Canada prior to that. I recall whenever landing in the States and in Japan that I had to go disembark and go through customs even if I was getting back on the same plane. It might be new policy.

Lots of times I have landed and not had to go through customs....in most countries. I do believe that in Canada you do need to clear customs....I see it all the time in T.O. I hear the announcements that even people who are transferring flights need to claim bags and clear customs.

My feeling, over a couple hundred dollars, why risk that the immigration in VAN is slow or something and you miss your flight. They won't hold the plane for you. I like the comfort of doing customs on my final destination. That's just my thoughts.

I would imagine Vancouver would be pretty efficient in processing new immigrants.

So it was moving day yesterday.. a big truck came down from Carmen to get all the stuff.. only problem was the truck was half full of relatives, ready to get the stuff. There was all sorts of random aunts, brothers, sister inlaws, even a nanny. They took up half the truck so lucky us, the truck has to make another $100 trip tomorrow. The important thing is they all had a great time.. there was catfish, letchon manok, ice cream.. like a trip to the beach for all :D

Last minute requests of family.. so expensive! :D

Baaaaa-ha. They are, actually :D I always see a greeter with a sign, going through the Customs line looking for the new immigrants.

Yeah I feel the same way. But I haven't decided what I will do yet for my wife. To early to think about that.

Haha... I remember we hired a jeepney for the people in the province to come to the wedding and it was like clowns coming out of a mini. There must have been 30 in the jeepney.

I don't think you are given a choice where you can clear customs.

Read an interesting account of a trip. Sounds like PALs service level hasn't improved. But note that the person says leaving the plane was a decision the passengers made and that no customs/cbsa/immigration is mentioned (only the return flight was direct).
http://www.balita.ca/2013/04/why-philippine-airlines-is-not-a-pal/

Anyway, I called the PAL office here in Toronto and asked. They said that sometimes passengers will be asked to deplane, sometimes not, depending on how long they will be at the gate. All they do is refuel (if necessary) deal with catering services, and sometimes change crews. The passengers wait at the Gate area. And according to her you do not go through customs, cbsa, immigration or what have you. And all your belongings stay on the plane.

Now if your destination is Vancouver, then you would grab your stuff, leave the plane, and go to the CBSA checkpoint, etc...
