LOL
Sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but that sounds too funny to ignore it..
"do I need to undergo guidance and counseling?"

That sounds like something they would force you to do if you have some kind of mental problems.
But seriously, I'm not familiar with all this PDOS and the other things you're talking about, and I've never heard of something similar being required. So is this specifically aimed at the Filipino community? And if so, who is making all this stuff mandatory? Is it the Philippines government? The Canadian government? I can't imagine that Filipinos are required to do some kind of special counseling before getting into Canada and other nationalities are not. That doesn't sound right to me.

It's definitely the Philippine government's bureaucracy. They like to make their citizens jump through hoops to be able to leave the country. They are experts at this since you can imagine how many of their citizens work abroad. It's their country, which they created and they can do what they like ::) until their own citizens complain which would probably be never. They also have a 'travel tax' on citizens wanting to travel abroad who are not working abroad. It's around $75 and they will slap that on at the airport.

Steph, you didn't mention "express" fees! Did you never have to pay any of those, hehehe? Before anyone scoffs at them, I'm betting almost EVERYONE on this forum would have opted to pay for that if the CIC offered . . . :P

Hi Dan,

We got approved and transferred at the same time (October 24)! :)

Have you "left" there before? Don't forget the 750 peso "foreigner departure fee". One time thought I was done with all my pesos so gave them all away (almost all anyway), so I had to pay that in foreign currency.

I've successfully left about 6 times already :o I budget about 4,000PHP for airport nonsense including overstaying my 21 days of course.

Steph is definitely correct about PDOS and all the other seminars "required." Sometimes though you don't have to wait for an available schedule, you can just walk in if you're in a rush to fly out of the country.

There is a foreigner departure fee?!?? Wow! I never noticed that when I visit.

Yes, I'm not sure it's named exactly that, but it's 750 PHP anyway. That's not bad Steph, I believe I paid 3,500 pesos to 'extend' my stay past 21 days (3000 plus 500 express fee). BUT I spent a whole day down at BI in Manila dealing with that. So at the airport you just pay a little extra with nary a slap on the wrist for an overstay eh?

Yeah.. I could spend a whole day getting the extension in Davao. It would be hot, with lineups, and delays, a lot of "wait lang.. for awhile maam." Or I can just be ushered to the payment window in the airport, no nonsense, and yep I still pay the rush fee among other silly fees, to the tune of about 3500. It's the fastest, easiest way to go. They are so used to it that it's no slap on the wrist - they just want your money so that you can get that stamp!
