In both my and my wife's forms (I'm the sponsor), it asks us to put a mailing address and email address.

We prefer to receive comm via email, so we're providing that, but what will the mailing address be needed for? Other than hopefully not receiving our application package back, what sort of correspondence gets sent to the mailing address?

Sorry if it sounds silly, I just figured all decisions are made via email and passports would be mailed to the local visa office.

You are correct that if you provide an email address, most correspondence is by email. However, at the very least your COPR and PR card must come by mail. They also sometimes request documents by mail rather than email (it happened to us when they needed more information for my spouse's PR card).

Ok that makes sense.

Here we don't have a residential mailing system, so all mail goes to our work address. Since we work in different places, will primarily correspondence (COPR, PR card etc) go to my wife (the principal applicant), or me?

Also, would the PR card get sent to us before we leave and move to Canada? It's not mandatory I assume to pass through immigration there, so is it something that gets sent at the very end of the process? In which case we'll be in Canada and at a different address.

Your wife will receive her CoPR in the mail, because she is the principal applicant.

The request for the PR Card will be made, on her behalf, after she has landed as a PR. It must be mailed to an address in Canada (even a friend or family member).

She must `pass through immigration' (in Canada) to then land as a PR. The actual card is the very last step and will take a few months to arrive in the mail.
