Ohhh I'm not in any kind of knitting mood right now and for the rest of the day. Just trying to find the most effective shoe to give him a swift kick right in his large butt!

So, ladies, I need some advice. As you may know from the constant whining, I'm in desparate need of a job - but I am not desparate myself. I had a potential employer contact me three days ago and wanted to do an interview after our initial email. I replied with my availability. Heard nothing back. Okay, stuff happens. I emailed back the next day offering my availability again. Heard nothing.

I don't like being jerked around. Two days of non-communication is very unprofessional and screams red flag.

I get an email this morning from this woman asking for an interview at a time clearly outside of my availability (husband and I have plans, didn't tell her that cuz it's not her business). So on top of ignoring me for two days, now she also requests a time I already said I am NOT free.

Based on this, I have decided to decline. What would be a polite response?
I would say something like "Due to previous commitments I am not able to meet with you at that time." if you still wanted to interview then I would suggest a different time that would work for you or if you don't want to deal with them I would just leave it with the "at this time." and see if they respond again to you.

If you have no interest in working for them in the future, I would say "Thank you for considering my application. Since our last communication, I have accepted a different position." Ego blow.

If they're in your industry and you may want to try for them in the future, tell them thanks for taking the time to review your résumé but you wish to withdraw your application due to recent developments or that you have other commitments right now.

You don't have to tell them the development is that they're asses.

If she had bothered to apologize and say "I was out of the office" I'd reschedule because I understand things do happen, but not being respectful of someone else's time doesn't sound like a good working situation to me.

Oooohhhhhh. i misunderstood, which just totally revealed my knitting style.

The most effective shoe is all of them, one after one, until he gets the idea.

Well here's the thing, it may not be that she wasn't respecting your time so I wouldn't take it personally. If it's an opportunity to get you on a payroll ASAP, then before dismissing it, check out what it has to offer. Prospective employers feel they have the upper hand because they technically they do. They can call the shots because there are a hundred candidates crab climbling for the same position.

If the interview date doesn't work for you, politely advise her of this and suggest a couple of alternative dates of when you'd be available. However, thank her for getting back to you (though 2 days later) and that you look forward to learning more about the organization and how your experience would fit the role.

I have to agree with this comment. As frustrating as it is to be put off for a whole two days, it may be a good opening. However if you are not interested in this line of work or company in any way shape or form, I would decline. There is nothing wrong with hearing what they have to offer,

Men!
And for you Halfmoon. As frustrating as men can be, especailly the ones we married. You need to take your own advice (from earlier in this thread to me and jerry about our men) and give him the silent treatment until he comes around to realize you were right or he was extremely wrong. Save those shoes for kicking his butt for when you see him at the airport! Nothing makes a better reunion! ;D

Are you calling the number I gave you? The number for Canada Border Services Agency is 1-888-502-9060, and it's a 24-hour line...so you can call any time, day or night. Call there first to report the immigration fraud. Give them as much information as you possibly can.

Then, call CIC at 1-888-242‑2100. Their call center is only open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, so the best thing to do is start dialing at 7:45 in the morning, and catch someone before the lines get tied up. As soon as someone answers, give them your name and client number, and tell them you just got off the phone with CBSA after reporting immigration fraud on your case, and you need to verify that your file has been updated with a cancellation request that you submitted by e-mail a few days ago.

If - and only if - you can't reach somebody at the 888-242 number by tomorrow, let me know and I'll give you a direct line to someone in Ottawa.

Your online status might not be updated immediately. And you'll only know if his PR has been approved once they send you a confirmation letter (either by e-mail or mail).
Today is a hard day, I called immigration the number you have given me and still nothing! If I don't hear anything by Friday, then I will go to my MP.

I actually agree with this, but because a few days' delay in communication is to be expected in any prospective offer, I assumed there's some other background detail to make her want to decline.
