I can't remember my photobucket password to get at my (usually) handy troll gifs, so I'll just leave this here instead...

I posted a strong word of caution a couple of weeks ago to those who were sponsoring people from a specific country and my post was removed by the mods after people claimed it was racist. I tried to point out that it was nothing of the sort, I was simply pointing out that there's a reason the wait times for application approval for people from this particular country is as long as it is, and that's because there have been a significant number of marriage frauds perpetrated by people from there. My encouragement was to beware, to keep one's wits about oneself, to test the waters thoroughly, so to speak, to carefully examine those red flags which may pop up over the course of time and not just slough them off and ignore them, before letting one's emotions rule the day and possibly cost big time in terms of emotional and financial turmoil.

Of course not all folk immigrating from there via Spousal Sponsorships are frauds, I was just pointing out that in the number of months I've been part of this board, there've been at least three or four women who claimed they've been scammed by men from that country, that once they arrived in Canada with their PR, they pulled the rug out from under them. Naming the country wasn't politically correct apparently.

I used to troll my own guild in dungeons. My guild master and two friends from Calgary helped. It's a wonder that guild broke up...

I hear your frustration...there are a few particular countries that come to mind.

I don't understand why naming facts about a specific country is considered racist. Maybe it was the way people interpreted the tone. It's unfortunate. Either way hopefully someone read the post and got something out of it, even if it was just an awareness that these things do unfortunately happen.

Well personally I'd rather be politically incorrect than heartbroken and left to possibly pay someone else's debts for years to come. I can think of a few countries where fraud is prevalent as well, but I won't say what they are.

Speaking of immigration fraud though, my boyfriend and I encountered a woman on our trip to Jamaica who asked us to hook her up with a nice Canadian man. She said there were no good men in Jamaica, blah blah blah. Red flags went off in my head, but my boyfriend being the nice and trusting guy he is, decided that he would try to hook her up with his best friend who is single. Well we talked to his friend and he said within a week of talking to this woman she went from being nice to being mean when he told her he thought they should get to know each other a little more before inviting her to come up to Canada. He said all she wanted to talk was immigration and I just sighed. Luckily he stopped all contact with her and wasn't fooled by her antics.

These guys crack me up....my only concern is the poor woman he gets invovled with. Although my experience with guys like this are that they can't find anyone willing to play their game. I hope this is a sign that people are starting to smarten up about online romance.

Oh boy, I've heard of similar experiences. None of the ones I know of ended up married, whew!

Yeah well I thought it was fishy anyway from the get go. She was our masseuse and kept telling my boyfriend that he was so handsome and that she wondered if he had any cute friends like himself. I knew she was up to no good and wasn't fooled, but let my boyfriend give her number to his friend. Thankfully as you mentioned it didn't go any farther between them. A few months later a woman my boyfriend and I both befriended while there, texted my boyfriend after months of not talking to us, asking for some money. So she's no longer a friend either. *sigh*

If she takes his money, she's as much a criminal as him!

I hope he doesn't find an innocent woman to swindle.

I had a guy from a certain country try to talk me into marrying him. I was already suspicious then he asked for money. Um...yea right. Block and delete! Then the next thing I know he is contacting me under another email 4months later saying he is married and moving to the States. During his entire immigration process and after he arrived in the States with his wife he would attempt to contact me under different emails.

One day I get a call from a woman saying she is his wife and wanted to know why my phone number was on his phone. I was shocked that he would still have it after so many years. I was brutally honest with her about his attempting to contact me. She is still with him and he is still attempting to get to Canada but thankfully he has stopped trying to communicate with me.....

Even when my now husband first contacted me I was cynical about his intentions. Obviously I am very glad that was overcome and we are together now but he went through a lot to win my heart and to prove himself.

Agreed, I was so naive to immigration before getting involved with my husband. I found out there are many people who are just as greedy for money on this end (sponsor side). Blows my mind that people treat marriage and immigration so friviously.

My husband I met online. I am a naturalized American citizen and he's a Canadian citizen, I thought that he just wanted to be with me to move to the US. It wasn't until I found this forum where I see people talking about Canada's awesomeness lol I'm not that convinced yet, hehehe
