As politically incorrect as it is to even think this it makes a person who's documents are taking so long wonder if the Embassy in Manila is like most other offices there in the Philippines where you pay extra and get yours done first, while those who don't pay wait.

Merlyns_Tim: Really? You really need to pay in Manila Canadian Embassy to get things done? Otherwise, you wait? hummmm....I heard similar story from one of my friend of friend's that he had to pay some money to an Emabssy local official to receive his newly born son's Canadian Passport while his wife was on process in the Regional VO as a spouse. wow! What an accontibility of Embassies! outa Canada? hah?

I am so new to this... I agree with your open conversation "Halfmoon". How do you know when it a marriage is true! I am glad you have found the love of your life. I am a sponsor but with my husbands behaviors, I feel I am going through a marriage of convenience. My heart is broken into two.

Hi there, I agree with the other's offering advice. We are all here if you need support or advice of any kind . I have been in a similar situation and can relate to the broken heart and the doubt that is in your mind. Feel free to talk to any of us!

I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope things get better for you. There's many people here willing to help you

My wife asked so may times if I could move there instead, and when you hear that, you just know it's not that they want to leave all they have behind just to be in Canada, .. but rather that as long as you're together no matter if the Philippines or Canada, all they want is to be family with you. Financial obligations keep me here, but I'd have just as happily moved there to be with her if all things were equal.
Sadly most of the images we see of the Philippines are of flood and earth quake victims, .. but there are also some areas of the Philippines you would never leave if you didn't have to.

That's very true. DH says that if he weren't for his family, he would really consider moving to my country permanently instead. The thing is, his family is too precious for the two of us.
I have no reason to leave my country; I have everything here including a career that will very difficult for me to re-start in Canada. If it weren't for him, I would have never considered moving out of Chile (earthquakes, tsunamis and all). That is a very reassuring thought for my husband (and his family): it's only for him that I'm doing this.

Yeah we were kinda in a funny spot when it came to immigration. We started talking more seriously about going up to Canada after we got married but thought that there was an income requirement to sponsor him in and then we found out we were pregnant with our first child. I talked him into staying in the states so that the baby would be close to his family and cousins... well around 5 years later and two more kids we realized that being close in location did not make a close relationship. We decided it was time to move closer to the family that wanted to be close to us but we were to far apart. Now we can't wait to get the paperwork completed and so we can get the hell out of here!

I can not wait for not for the 9 hour time difference to be gone! And to be cuddling in sleep instead of sitting in a cold bed with a phone to my ear. :-X

Not in any way saying that "is" what happens, ... just that it wouldn't surprise me. This thought of course is coming from a guy who has been waiting for 15 months for his wife to get her visa, and who was shocked almost numb in seeing a work acquaintance fly through in 8 months, with absolutely no idea how that happens.
