Ahhhh I've always wanted to go to Brazil since I have family there. I even bought a book to learn survival Portuguese...just when I was about to get started, I met my hubby. He crushed my dreams! J/k

I'm sure many things I say seem strange......such as "I'm going home to watch a hockey game" :p :p
They also pronounce the word "suite" as "suit." Many of them "wash" the floor as opposed to "mopping" the floor. If I was preparing to make dinner, I would be "fixing" dinner. Or my favorite: "I'm fixing to go to the store." You're what?

The list goes on and goes. I lived in the South for ten years. They say weird things, but it was an awesome place to live with nice people.

And no snow.

Soda is also a New England term. I grew up saying "soda" even though "pop" is prevelent in Ohio because my parents were from NE. I will continue to say soda because it rhymes with Yoda.

I am living in Tennessee with my husband and am trying hard to learn the "different" sayings they have here. I asked why people say "ink pen" (I thought all pens were ink) I have learned that it is because with the southern accent "pen" and "pin" sound the same.......
My husband is from TN too! :) His family has taught me a lot of slang. I've started saying Y'all just as fast as my husband started saying Eh :p

O.M.W!

The soda thing is ANNOYING for me haha. When I asked my mother in law if she liked pepsi, she went "Dahling, you don't just saying PEPSI here in the south. You say soh-dah!" Me: *blink blink blink*

The accents are wonderfully delightful haha. But the "reckon" is confusing. Tony still says "I reckon I'm going to go take a shower" Me: Why are you wreaking the shower...? Duuuhhhh...

Y'all come back now y'hear?
Did you grow up in a barn?!
I'll be dern tootin' if I catch him sayin' that again!
I'mma count to THREE, y'all better have y'alls butts in mah chairs!

My in-laws are awesome (And I love Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta and Blue Collar Comedy Tour haha)

I had a lady ask if I was a Newfie the other day because of how I talk. I blinked at her. I don't talk funny!

Calgarians pronounce pasta and Mazda funny though.

People think my parents and I are American (New York) because of the way we talk! But when we go to NY, people KNOW we're from Ontario. When my best friend, who is from Thunder Bay, first visited us here in Southern Ontario, she actually asked if we were from the US and moved her haha.

But leaves are on trees, not Leafs!

I've been teaching English here in Russia, and that has led to some fun discussions about the difference between British and American English, and by default, between American and Canadian English. My students all know what a loonie is, and that the 5$ bill (not 5$ note) has (had?) hockey on it.
At this point, my own English has turned into this bizarre mix of British English, Canadian English, and some Russian words. My fiancee finds it hilarious when I sometimes copy her mistakes in English. Sigh.

Where are you from Lunas? And where in Brazil you have family?
