Guys, just to let you know, I applied for GCMS notes yesterday ... It's a long wait, but will let you know what's written once I get them.

Does it take 40 calendar or working days?

30 calendar days normally.

Minimum 6 months should be there in expiry to initiate PP renewal process.
2ndly I have heard that if you inform passport office personnel (probably bit senior staff) that you have to travel within 1 month or so, which is genuine reason of concern, they consider your request and renew the PP even if 7 to 8 months are remaining in expiry.

I think passport cannot be renewed before 2 - 4 months (max).

hmmm, Mine is going to expire in March next year. I guess I'll go with the same passport and still land in summer (before September). Septembers onwards is going to be scary for newcomers & settlement.

Same was the case with me, my pp expiry was march 2015, but I renewed it in April 2014. Approximately 11 months and some days were remaining. There is no restriction for renewal of Pakistani PP, even you can renew if u have more than a year is remaining in current passport
