LMO = LMIA

I want to hear your thoughts.

I am in canada with LMO that is valid for another year. At the time when my employer applied thay changed AOE with LMO and I got LMO. There was no such a thing as LMIA.
Now after a year they introduced LMIA.

If I have LMO that is valid, and through that LMO I am working in Canada and have permanent job offer from my employer does that gives me 600 points or even though I have valid LMO I need to reapply for LMIA again. My job is in NOC B.

I am really confused, as LMIA is 1000$ and I don;t beleive my employer will want to apply for it as in his eyes he already applied for LMO why now apply for LMIA.

Not entirely sure what this means yet, in terms of changes to the LMIA application/process, but

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/employers/express-entry-sheet.asp

"There is no fee for permanent residence LMIAs."

This is a great find :)

If this means there is no LMIA fee for permanent residence than I might persuade my employer to apply.

Any information about how to apply for LMIA? Should my employer call Service Canada to get more information.

amro375 is talking about in a situation that amro375 is under a previous LMO, would the employer need to get another LIMA?

i.e. can we consider old LMO a equivalent to LIMA so amro375 can directly add 600 points without applying for a new LIMA? The risk here is the long processing time and also the potential of being rejected.

"If you have a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment for an employee holding a temporary work permit to whom you wish to extend a permanent job offer, the LMIA may still be valid under Express Entry."

Clear as mud. Under what circumstances it "may" be valid is not spelled out yet...

Called CIC and they explain to me that LMO is not enough to get 600 points. You need to have LMIA :(

I will first wait for the firs/second draw under EE. If I do not get selected I will ask my employer to start the LMIA process. Don't want to ask them to do ekstra work for me :(

Well they say it has to be LMIA and that LMO expires after 5 months of issuance so most probably is expired for everyone that has it.

won't the LMIA only valid for six month too?
I didn't get it.
Does LMIA have a longer validity period?

I have no idea... I don;t even know why they change it. It was AOE then they chance it to LMO now LMIA

If your employer received an LMO or LMIA for this job already and you have a valid work permit, you don't need a new LMIA.

See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/hire/offers.asp which says:

Employers need to
• provide a job offer supported by an Labour Market Impact Assessment, and
• get a positive LMIA from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), unless the candidate is already working in Canada as a Temporary Foreign Worker in a position for which the employer already acquired an LMIA and the employer now wishes to extend a permanent job offer to this candidate. If the position or person was previously exempt from an LMIA, then a new LMIA will be required under Express Entry. When you get your LMIA, it will have an associated number that you will need to give to your Express Entry candidate.
• tell their candidate to create an Express Entry profile or update their existing one in MyCIC with the
◦ Employer name and address,
◦ Start date,
◦ LMIA number, and
◦ NOC Code related to the job
