I wonder if a liability insurance does it exist in canada???

I am from Germany and I had one there but I live now as a common law partner waiting for PR in Canada.

In Germany we call it Haftpflichtversicherung - liability insurance.
How are you in Canada insured?

I only find car and home insurance online?

maybe a german person can help me to answer my question!

Are you talking about some sort of health insurance policy? Liability insurance is provided by your home or auto policy in Canada/US. This would relieve you of the burden of having to pay out of pocket if someone was to sue you for say a slip and fall accident on your front walk or for you side swiping their parked car. If you are talking about personal liability, I can't imagine that any insurer is going to cover you in case you decide to smack someone around and they sue you.

What kind of thing does it cover? That is, what are you expecting to happen that will be covered by this type of insurance?

You can get liability insurance with your home insurance, which would cover you for things like people getting hurt at your home.
Our auto insurance is often no fault - it will pay no matter who caused the accident.

I think I understand what you refer to as it is insurance against lawsuits. A German I knew once called it "Lawyers insurance" but I'm not sure if that was the correct name for it but yes, you can get it here in Canada as I had it as part of my business insurance a few times. An example would be a contractor who worked on houses with little or no risk to the residents even with a signed disclaimer he could find himself faced with an expensive lawsuit if the resident slipped and fell. If the resident went to his insurance to get them to pay for his injury the resident's insurance company would pay out and then seek to lay the responsibility wherever they could so not to have to absorb the financial loss themselves which would begin with making a lawsuit naming the town or city, any workmen or companies who may have worked on the property and contributed to the hazard and, even any visitors who were there that day.

By no means does it indicate guilt but the fact that they are trying to use their vast resources to find somebody else to pay could cost you tens of thousands or even hundreds to defend yourself with letters and affidavits to do so.

Liability insurance provides that you would be represented and covered against lawsuits pertaining to your business. It was about $700 for four months of seasonal work I believe in that case and when I worked in the oilfield I had to have three million liability on top of truck and vehicle insurance which would have included this 'liability insurance' we speak of. I imagine you could find something less expensive as an individual however, you won't find it in the yellow pages rather you need to have an insurance agent look it up for you and even then, it would be rated on who you are, what your potential risks are that might subject you to be liable for something. I strongly suspect that an unknown scenario such as immigration with so many variable risk factors would not even be of interest for them to lay themselves out for insuring against as it has no limit as to what could happen or how much they would have to pay out to defend you against but, hope that sends you in the right direction.
