Hi I just called CIC any they asked me to amend it, also my company has called only to have gotten the same answer. I remember other people having gotten a specified location for their PGWP as well and also if you look for the title 'About Employment Location on Open Work Permit (Restriction?)' someone else has called and CIC says it is not an issue

OMG I can't believe everything is so hard, I might need to go over to the border again. Don't know if that will help.

Kayeebun,

Congratulations! It is not expected CBSA or CIC to put your workplace location as your residence. Practically its an error that doesn't matter.

Check under: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION on your PGWP for these particulars below;

Employer: UNKNOWN
Occupation: UNKNOWN

If they look like above its fine and nothing to worry about.

The only errors that CIC amends are under the following:

Family name
Given name(s)
Date of birth
Place of birth
Country of birth
Citizenship
Sex
Marital status
Date or original entry
Date of landing

You may ask yourself, 'but why?' This is because your residential address doesn't matter. A PGWP is an OWP that gives you the freedom to work for anyone (EXCEPT strip clubs, massage parlours, or escort services) and live anywhere in Canada.

Therefore, your employer should not worry about your residential address.

For further information on document amendments, please see the link below:

I'm happy for you and congratulations.

Cheers!

Please provide the link where you got the restriction info from.

It wouldn't allow me to include links. I read that a lot of people got location as their current city so I wonder if that has happened to anyone here? Also some people called CIC and they say it is not a problem. I guess it depends on the agent.

Current residential city or workplace address?

Either way, I don't think it should matter. As long as the fields below are stated as such.

Employer: UNKNOWN
Occupation: UNKNOWN

That said, head back to the border and confirm with officers. Good luck.

Cheers!

Hi Thanks for staying with me. The employment location that he put is the same as my residential city. I read that it has happened to a few people.

About your earlier reply, it seems that the following is under the permanent resident document section.

Errors in the following information may be corrected:

Family name
Given name(s)
Date of birth
Place of birth
Country of birth
Citizenship
Sex
Marital status
Date or original entry
Date of landing

For Temporary Resident Documents (so I don't know if my case falls into their job duty)

CIC will correct valid temporary resident documents if Canadian immigration officials have made an error in recording the information. If the name on your valid temporary resident document matches the passport you used for entry to Canada, your immigration records will not be amended.

Your valid temporary resident documents are meant to demonstrate to employers, schools, or other authorities that you are authorized to work, study, visit, or remain in Canada. The information contained in these documents should be the same as the information contained in your entry passport.

Changes made to personal information after you entered Canada will not be amended on your temporary resident document. The information on this document should match your passport. If the information on your passport changes, you should apply for a new document.

If your amendment request is different from the information contained on the passport and to which your temporary resident document is attached, your information will not be corrected.

What documents may be corrected?

The following documents may be amended only if they are valid (have not expired):

Visitor Record (IMM 1442)
Work Permit (IMM 1442)
Study Permit (IMM 1442)
Permit to Come Into or Remain in Canada (IMM 1263)
Temporary Resident Permit (IMM 1442)

Yeah, it's just both the company and I called CIC and got the same answer so I don't think the company would like me to work.

Also please read:

It seems like I need to send to alberta instead.

Study Permit (IMM 1442)
Permit to Come Into or Remain in Canada (IMM 1263)
Temporary Resident Permit (IMM 1442)
Its not only about permanent residents. In fact permanent residents are not required to have a WP or SP.

The heading clearly states, "Request to Amend Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence or Valid Temporary Resident Documents (IMM 5218)"

Temporary resident documents are WP, SP, TRV, TRP, etc. And no, I still don't believe that they made an error.

I hope that clears the confusion. Again, don't worry about residence. As long as your employer is unknown, that is good enough.

But like I said, you don't lose a thing if you head back to the border to confirm with the CBSA officers.

Cheers!

Oh yes, I know about that link. If you read it carefully, you will have observed that his situation was about him being given less time on his PGWP not address or employment location. In fact the person in question never went through with applying for amendment. I think he gave up because perhaps the mistake was his not CIC.

So, again his situation is different from yours. And yours is not amendable because according to CIC personal information is more important (like dob, cob, name, sex etc). It helps them keep their statistical information. People change addresses everyday and CIC doesn't mind about that. Hence why according to your PGWP, your employer is UNKNOWN. This means you have the freedom to move to any other location in Canada and work.

I hope that helps.

Cheers!

Yeah I called again to CIC and the answer is still send to get amended. Earlier what I meant was under Permanent Resident Documents there's info of what can be corrected that includes name ans such and then there is Temporary Resident Documents and under that there are types of documents to be corrected. So my understanding is that the names and basic info was referring to the permanent residents but I could be wrong. Either way I will go to the border tmr and if that doesn't work I will send it in. Also want to remind everyone that's going to CBSA the work location might give you some trouble!

Hey guys I wanted to ask which border should I go for the flagpoling. Coutts or Carway? Also I have the possibility of going to BC for flagpoling as I don't have a driver's license in Canada and will be asking someone for a ride or using public transport in BC.

Thanks for everyone sharing your updates and information. A quick question: I am working full-time now but my study permit is going to be expired on July 30th. I was wondering if I could continue working after the study permit expired in the case I have not recieved my PGWP at that time?
Thanks!

Hi,

I applied for my PGWP on the 27th May and still have no update. My student visa expires on August 31st and I'm coming back to Canada on the 28th of August. I have a Job that I'm scheduled to start in the first week of September in Vancouver.

I have a couple of questions:

1) If I want to do flag-polling on the 28 or 29th of August, would it be too late as it would have been more than 90 days since I received my graduation confirmation?

2) Assuming I can do flag-polling then, since I'll be entering from Seattle on the 28th of August, can I get the documentation done while entering Canada on road?

Thanks so much!

:)

I had a question about flagpoling. In some threads people are saying that only citizens of TRV exempt countries can apply for PGWP via flagpoling. Can someone clarify?
