Petition her for what? Tourist visa? Permanent residency?

hello guys, my partner and I are also lesbian couple and into common-law partnership. I wonder how is it for same-sex couple applying for work in Canada? are there any discrimination? thanks!

I assume you included your partner as a dependent in your PR application?

Unlike in Asia, marital status and other personal information are not requested when applying to jobs to minimize discrimination.

(That's why I left Asia. ;) )

yes, I've included her in my application for PR and there was no issue with common-law partnership. that's why I'm quite worried in terms of job search and filing tax return later on. do we indicate that to avail some benefits married couple can get compared to single individual? or do we need to marry each other first?

wow, that's good to hear! I guess this is one of the primary reasons why we are planning to leave as well. we want a more loving, accepting, non-discriminating country :)

Not a chance to discriminate any one on her or his sexual orientation or any such thing in Canada.

Good Luck

Hi Chamil28,

I have read your posts in several threads in the forum. I am in a same sex relationship as well. I want to sponsor my partner however, we have not lived together for 12 months. We are in a relationship for several years already. It seems that my partner and I are left with the conjugal route but I've read that it has a high risk of refusal. Can I ask for your help on how to make my application successful? All advice will be appreciated. :)

Has your partner tried to apply for a TRV to visit Canada yet?

Where are you from? Is same sex marriage legal in your country? If not, can you travel to a different country and get married there?

hi scylla,

My partner and I applied for a visit visa in canada last October and if ever granted a visa i believe we can be marry from there. Any idea what documents to be prepare to get married? Second, if we get married and my aunty will sponsor me through family class under other relative (she's single, no spouse no kids, no common law partner and a citizen of canada) do i still qualified for the sponsorship? or i will loose it since i am married for example? Third, should i apply for a the sponsorship first before we get married and wait until i get a PR? by the way, we are same-sex couple living in dubai since 2014.
