thanks manila for sharing ur experience,

my wife is RN as well, but she still worked on assessing her credentials so far, did u?...can u plz tell me whats ur plan for getting certified as RN in Calgary.......second....I am worried from the weather as well, being in the gulf all my life then going to a cold country is worrying me a lot.....i think its still cold in Calgary in April and probably May .....so do we have to bring heavy cloths and what kind of medicines we r allowed to take with us..?....like antibiotic bills ,cough syrup ....etc.....by the way....does the heating system works even in summer...!!.....i checked some weather forecast websites....the temp decrees to 8 to 6 C degrees at nights...thats way cold to me..... :-*

Last year, it was still snowing in May. From what I gathered, this past winter has been very warm and mild. We're really hoping today is the last snow (it was snowing earlier!) for the season. It's supposed to warm up to 13C next Wednesday. We hope it stays warmer.

Summer is really only June-August, sometimes not even all that time. My first year, it snowed in August at night once.

Sometimes, it can get chilly at night. When we went for vacation in August, it was warm during the day, but in the evening, we had to wear sweaters outside. However, 8C isn't too bad. If you're in the sun, it can feel rather nice. You'll get used to it fast. (I lived in Atlanta before Calgary.)

I brought two prescriptions with me to Canada. Both were in the original bottle with my full name and other information printed on the original label. I believe all medication has to be in the original factory packing or pharmacy packaging to be allowed into Canada.

Can any one suggest me a Drivers Training School with a reasonable rate (preferably located in NE) and having a standard course of 10 hours behind the wheel and 15 hours class study to qualify for Car Insurance reduction? I have heard that after attending course we get almost 20% reduction in the rate for 3 years?
I am asking this because rates vary and all reasonably priced driving schools are not the same, some are rated good and some are not by those who had already attended (this is a universal issue with less expensive things all over the globe :D).
In my opinion getting the training is good, this helps us (even the experienced drivers) to gain confidence on Canadian roads to pass road test, also that insurance is always high for first timers with no record of driving in North America and any reduction in rate is a welcome thing.
(I have passed knowledge test and already got Class 7 and recently got exemption to appear for Class 5 road test, but I am seriously thinking to go for training before appearing in the Class 5 Road Test)

Thanks bro obaid ur reply is really helpful..........i will try to push our relatives to look for a furnished flat more seriously......bybthe way did u buy an international travel insurance.....i think we need it, as alberta province will revoke ur card if u dont stay 6 months in a 12 month period.......so if u going to stay for short time like me iguess better to buy one.

I am planning to stay for long duration. For this short term lease i just did this considering the fact that betterfuture has pointed out. If I didn’t like the apartment/the owner or I found a better place comparing my current rental place I will be in a position to switch my place rather stuck there for 6 months or a year lease. Secondly you can have ur travel insurance which a few of my friends bought for 3 months but insurance company will not cover preexisting conditions. You can check with your travel agent for those too. These are my consideration and can vary case to case bases so you can judge what’s best for you.

I would have to ask, why do u need a travel insurance for three months? As long as you fill the form you will be medical covered by the government of Alberta.

Dev was the only one best caring instructor when I learned my driving at that school couple of years ago. Other instructors were not good as they were trying to pass time instead of providing proper training. I am not sure whether he works for that school or not.

Dear Landed forum members
I would like to know how easy going are the landlords for new immigrants to rent their houses, especially for those of us with no friends or relatives( with no reference)
I have booked a temporary accommodation for a week. Do you think it is possible to get a place to rent in a week time?
we will be landing in few days, your responds are very much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I am attending training from Apex, they have a good team and they are rightly priced too, I am satisfied.
