WOW :o

Even live in nannies make more than that!

$10/hr sounds so unrealistic and very low as compared to Australian standards.

$10 per hour may sound unfair and maybe even unreasonable (subjectively so) but for a job at a gas station, minimum wage (currently $9.75 in Alberta) is very normal and realistic.

Gee in the States, gas station employees make at least $2-3 above minimum wage.

Thanks for the reply. I am attending training from Apex, they have a good team and they are rightly priced too, I am satisfied.

Harri if you don't mind, How much are you paying for that training ? How many lessons and hours?

Any other details?

Thanks

I paid 492 (before tax), this includes 10 hours driving training (2 hours each day) and 15 hours class for insurance reduction course. But do pass your knowledge test first, that is not part of training. They have Indian instructors, this helped due to ease in communication. I am just coming back from from the registry after passing advance road test for Class 5.

Where are you looking for a job?

The Home Depot is starting to hire for summer. (The same will be true for any store with a garden centre, like Lowe's, Rona, etc.) I have extensive history with Lowe's. :D

However - BE WARNED - these are most likely temporary jobs. If it will help for a few months, then great.... but don't plan to last forever unless you're offered a permanent full time position. (I loved working there and would go back at the drop of a hat.)

If anyone wants to apply for these types of jobs and wants advice, tips, etc - just let me know.

HI,

WE R LANDING IN MAY AND OUR BABY EXPECTED IN JULY. KINDLY TELL US THE PROCEDURE OF REGISTRATION AND OTHER FORMALITIES OF DELIVERING A BABY IN CALGARY.

Hi

My spouse and I are also expecting a baby in October and most likely it will be after our landing!
I inquired straight with Ministry of Health of Alberta and they replied to me promptly with all necessary info included.
They include also contacts for the registry!
Here is their email to me:

Thank you for your email inquiry.
All eligible residents of Alberta must register themselves and their dependants with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP).

An eligible resident of Alberta is a person who is:
-Legally entitled to be or to remain in Canada and makes his/her permanent home in Alberta;

-Committed to being physically present in Alberta for at least 183 days in a 12 month period;

-Not claiming residency or obtaining benefits under a claim of residency in another province, territory or country;

-Any other person deemed by the regulations to be a resident not including a tourist, transient or visitor to Alberta.

If you are a new or returning Alberta resident, you must register for AHCIP coverage to receive insured hospital and physician services.
Persons moving permanently to Alberta from another country must register with Alberta Health within three months of arrival. If all Canada entry documents are in order and the application is received within 90 days from date of arrival, coverage is effective the date of arrival. If the application is not received within 90 days, the effective date is determined at the time of registration. Persons can not apply for AHCIP coverage until they are physically here in Alberta.
When you apply for AHCIP coverage, you must provide supporting documents that prove:
-Alberta residency
-Identity and
-Legal entitlement to be in Canada
The form (AHC102) Application for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan Coverage is available on our website at:
http://www.health.alberta.ca/documents/AHCIP-form-AHC0102.pdf
For more information on the registration requirements please visit:
http://www.health.alberta.ca/AHCIP/how-to-register.html
For more information on the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan coverage:
http://www.health.alberta.ca/documents/AHCIP-brochure-about-2011.pdf
You may visit a Registry that offers health care registration services in the area you will live, to apply for the AHCIP coverage.
They will register you, send the information electronically to our office and we will issue a personal health card to you. You must provide the registry with original validation documents as they do not accept photo copy.

A list of registry agents offering health care registration services is available at:
http://www.health.alberta.ca/documents/AHCIP-Registry-Agent-poster.pdf

We can not confirm that your spouse will be eligible for coverage until we have viewed her Canada entry documents. Alberta residents from outside Canada must provide a copy of their current Canada entry document to determine their eligibility for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) coverage, even if the person is married to a Canadian citizen and made an application for permanent residency.

Alberta Health Care may provide six months of coverage for your spouse if she intends to make Alberta her permanent residence and the appropriate papers are received. Acceptable immigration documents for the six months coverage are Canada Custom stamp in her passport upon entry into Canada or a visitors visa issued in Canada. Other acceptable immigration documents are permanent residency card, a twelve month work authorization or a student visa.
