Expect to spend $1200 for a 2bed/2bath in the decent neighborhoods in Calgary. This usually doesn't include utilities.canpr said:Aquib, good post !! Do you happen to know how much does a 2 bed 2 bath cost in a fairly decent neighborhood? Also, could you recommend few good apartments?
Thank you.
Aquib said:Hi,
As I told you all earlier that I was waiting for my interview result, so now with all your prayers and wishes, Today HR finally call to negotiate salary , and I accepted first offer he made to me (bit desperate to say YES, later I been told by friend that I could easily negotiate 6-7000$ more , but Honestly I would be happy in 10000 less then what's he offer me - after all satisfaction count ) .
It's a management job in Retail . Need to go or 6 weeks training from 1st (so its good start within 6 week of landing - I am happy )
Further , please do let me know if anyone landing Calgary and need any help with airport pickup, if I am not working that day then I can pick you up from Airport , welcoming you to Canada .
My personal experience that its easy to settle in Alberta, Skan, and Manitoba for newcomer as compare to Toronto or Vancouver (got friend in Toronto and he just got part time job at one retail shop after 2 month struggle ) also I saw few people who in Toronto since 3-4 years now moved to Alberta .
Life is bit hard if you directly coming from South east Asia , but if you South East Asian living in UK, EU Arab, Australia , US etc then you find easy settlement.
It's approx 5 weeks we in Calgary, leaving good job and friends in UK and we questioned our self few time in first 4 days that "have we taken right Decision ? " but believe me after we moved to rental house , that day and today we didn't regretted even single time and found Ca very welcoming.
One thing I not happy - my daughter school , where in less then 2 week she lost her bag, tiffin , jacket etc few time , I have raise this with school office that even if she forget things in her break then also they should present in lost n found section, but looks like school suffering from some pickers ( else school is good ) .
Regarding my Car insurance , some insurance company honour UK no claim without any issue , I paying approx 100$ /month for 4 L engine SUV for full cover. So I am happy with insurance price as a newcomer .
amikety said:No, I think they would tell you that you need "Canadian experience."
Basically the same as what we were discussing in the other thread
If you decide to make the long trek to Canada, I would look into Canadian universities that offer online degrees and see if you could obtain a Canadian Master's degree. You could even do another MBA with a focus on marketing, sales, operations, etc. (I've been told by admissions advisors to avoid Human Resources as it's a hard field to break into and not a lot of jobs.) Of course, you have to find a way to fund this extra degree... but I think it's a good option. It could be the difference between running the drive thru at Tim Horton's and running a branch with RBC.
If you're interested to learn more, I can forward you the information for the universities I've talked to (in USA and Canada, American degrees are used in Canada with no problems).

Hi Amikety, I am not looking something within downtown but a 3 bed 2 bath apartment within few KMS bordering downtown. Upto $1400 incl utilities is fine with me. But, it has to be a real good community.amikety said:Expect to spend $1200 for a 2bed/2bath in the decent neighborhoods in Calgary. This usually doesn't include utilities.
There are a lot of good neighborhoods in Calgary... too many to rattle off a complete list. Is the $1200 a realistic budget for you? Can you afford more? Less? Do you have any ideas where in Calgary you would like to live? (For example, my husband works in SE Industrial, so we always pick a place near there.)
Hello Aquib!Aquib said:Friend, they don't bother much about your degree, though degree will be amongst one factor for invitation of interview. Main thing they look on your experience, try to bring as much evidence of your previous experience, here they counts experience regardless its in Canada or Asia (not to say that they won't prefer your 5 year India experience in front of 5 year Canadian, but they do prefer your 5-10 year India experience in front of 2-3 year canadian experience )
to my utter surprise when others are claiming it is very difficult to find a job, you are saying you got job offer for the very first 2 jobs you applied and then you even got offer for 60k+, "it seems too good to be true" isn't mr aquib ?Aquib said:I applied just for 2 Job (i retail and 1 tech ) and in week got offer for Tech job with 60k + but they want me to work in North Alberta and looking at my family and coming child I told them that I cant leave Calgary this winter. Waiting for outcome for Retail Job and if With all yours prayers I get that then I will start working in few weeks .
When I came here I was prepared to stay home , do research on various possabilites for first 3-4 months without job , though it may eat away big chunk of my hard earn saving but at one time I had work over 90 (2 FT jobs) hours in week for continous 2 year when I landed in UK so I dont feel bad in treating my first few month in Ca as a holiday .
But hopefully I will get something satisfactory much before that .
Just need your best wishes and mine always with you all .
Everyone has to undergo few years in pressure with hard work so be ready as thats only way you can live remaining of your life happliy .
i still doubt it amikety...i know other people who got uk / us experience and are uk/us citizens but hasnt got any thing...the way he has described events and got attention on this forum is very suspecious...amikety said:Two factors. He has UK experience and luck.
Agree with Kiala. Aquib, I will appreciate if you please reply to Kiala's query.kiala said:i still doubt it amikety...i know other people who got uk / us experience and are uk/us citizens but hasnt got any thing...the way he has described events and got attention on this forum is very suspecious...
if some one gets offer of 60k+ in start, do you think he will refuse that he can't travel or relocate,,regarding his pregnant wife, she had travelled all the way from uk so why she can't travel any more
to me he looks suspecious and i am entitled to my opinion..thanks
agreed with kiala and yahoo, another astonishing affect is he said in his last posts that he should have negotiated with the HR departemnt for retail job and he should easily have gotten $7000 or $8000 more...come on man are you kidding us...hahahahahahahahah...and you can also judge the level of his english from his posts.....he is fooling all of us but i wonder why is he doing,,wats the intention?????Yahoo0 said:Agree with Kiala.
