I am excited to share the news that I did my landing at Ambassador bridge last weekend. I will add the conversation here which could possibly help some of you guys, if you have a question I would be happy to help as well.
Entered from US by road, stopped at the border. I handed over the passports and the COPR documents.
Officer: Hi, what brings you to Canada?
Me: We are here to do the landing formalities.
Officer: Are you moving here permanently?
Me: No, just to finish off the landing, since the validity of IM-1 visa is about to expire
Officer: how long you will be in Canada?
Me: Two weeks
Officer: Whose vehicle is this?
Me: Its mine, I have the title
Officer: Does it have XX (State) plates?
Me: Yes, will be driving back to the States and I am not importing it right now
Officer: OK please go inside the immigration office
Inside the office,
Officer: Welcome, how can I help you?
Me: We are here to complete the landing
Officer: Can I have your passport, COPR? Do you have the list of goods bringing into Canada?
Me: Its just clothing, but I have goods to follow
Officer: Have you completed the goods to follow form?
Me: No, I do not see one with the COPR. Do i get the form here?
Officer: Of course yes! make sure you list out all the goods otherwise those will be taxable when you move here permanently.
Officer: Do you have a local address here?
Me: Yes I do.
Officer: whose address is that?
Me: my friend's address.
Officer: The PR cards have to be sent to a local address and we dont recommend them going to anyone else. I am not sending you the cards now because you have not moved here permanently now. Once you move your goods you can ask for the cards to be sent out. Also you are not eligible for OHIP coverage till the time you move in here to settle
Me: I can authorize you to send the PR cards there to my friend;s address, rest of the documents like OHIP I dont really need them now because i have full coverage from States
Officer: OK, provide me the address. You will get the cards in 8 weeks time. If not you contact the number on the form [I am not asked to fill up any form during landing other than goods to follow]
We drove into Canada as permanent residents!! 8) ;D
Good luck to all of you who are on the path to PR, this forum really helped my questions earlier and I thank all of you again. I will continue to contribute on this forum.
Cheers.
