I don't know of any contacts in Toronto because we landed in Nova Scotia. I just found thim on the web while i was looking for a place to stay while I was still in my home country. I paid them $400 CAD for everything from meeting us at the airport, getting our SIN cards, open a bank account, Health cards, got us an apartment, used their address for our PR cards, found schools for our children, helped us in finding employment. they were really very helpful and I think the money we paid was worth it.

Now we know about the MAGICJACK which worth 50 dollars for calling Canada and USA, comfortable metro between Mississauga and Toronto, $1000 credit card, big shops price choppers , Relocation Specialist, meals avarage price etc...

iam stayin at scarorough..its my fifth day in canada

i too had the same feelings ..leaving home and a confortble job there. i have got sin the second day it took 1 hr ..lot of crowd i saw a mixed crowd of newcomers indians,paks, chinese and africans...

i was bit afraid when i landed as i was sceptical abt finding a job on our own. Even nearby gas stations and tim hortons job was in waiting list...networking helps with a great deal.

i opened bank account in scotia bank and got a 1000 dollar credit card with it.

frends there is one called MAGICJACK just 50 dollars ..if u connect it to ur laptop with net calls across canada and US are unlimited free..no bills nothing. get that..i made atelast 60 calls i the day i got.. its available in nearby bestbuy...

to remind you all initially u wont understnad a bit what they are talking ...takes some time to adjust.

i hae a ielts 8 bank but still difficulty in understanding them

i have two interviews lined up next week..just basic jobs ..lets see ....and mind u everything in toronto is following process. means even for a normal job they as u to upload resume in net and wait for HR.In india i remember giving lot of sales jobs to ppl just by knowing then...no interview...nothing



i walked a great deal ..not so familiar with travel...this weekend planning to get a weekend pass and roam all buses and train.I have changed my resume 5 times in5 days ...so keep on updating ur resume as per canada standards..


as of now still feeling sad without a job but its just 5 days ....i plan to somehow get a job within 1 month ....
I have updated my resumes in bank sites. lets see if i hav any luck


frnds dont lose hope ,,i just wanted to tell the reality ...lots of jobs are there but it takes time and some luck to get it fast.

just have one thing in mind..if we struggle now our children future are rock solid..

I got my SIN card today by post..it took exavlt 10 days..

and i got a call centre job..basic job 10.25 dollar per hor for 6 days a wrrk..so can manage my rent and food for the family...being in that i will try to get banking jobs...so joining the job on friday( auspicious day as per indian standards......he he he little sentiment)

i met many indians in the interview without jobs and been in canada for almost 5-6 months...so i feel iam lucking enuf atleast to get this job in 10 day of landing


so ready to start tough and blessed life ahead.

work is also nearby just 10 minutes frm home but still have to go by bus.

so personally i chose this job over the pizza job...becasue i thot daily i can talkt o lot of ppl and develop my english standards and a much better workplaces...frends how much proficent you are in english ,it will take some time to understnad the canadian/us slang..u wil experience once u land here..if somebody calls u on phone u hav to listen carefully...but its easy over a month we wil also talk canadian way and i thot call centre is the best for that( my personal opinion...i respect all jobs...).and morever i can get some canadian customer service exp....


planning to ask my family to come down by oct first week..missing my kid so much..some sacrifice for his better future..


nothing more to post...once my kid lands i hav to claim child benefits..


one advice..pay everything by credit card never use cash..and build credit card history ..( and dont forget to pay it....)

so anybody ear scarborugh lets meet there...it near to my house also.

Yeah even I got a call today morning from my friend already landed in vancouver told me to attend canadian accent classess prior coming to CANADA and told it will be a great help to get a job in CANADA... This is what he called as "Gurumantra".

So I suggest everyone reading this post kindly attend some classess for US/Canadian accent to adjust yourself into canadian society on day1.

Hi attituderocks,

I landed 2 days ago too along with the family. Am put up with a friend and am planning to go back in a few days .. need to tie up a few loose ends and then come back here in feb/march 2011 and start looking for job etc.

- I know its summer going on there.. but what about woolen cloths? Have you carried wid u or gonna buy from there? What would be Best? Buying from india or buying there? I have heard Indian woolen cloths aren't good for Canadian winters.

- Whats news paper costs? Or there any public library?
- Whats rental cost difference between opting semi furnished or full furnished apartments?

Hi Attituderockz,

I came accross this information on the net. I thought it might be useful. There are certain certifications whcih are considered mandatory or atleast people who have the certifications are given pref in job interviews. Most of these certificataions are issued by a institute called CSI - Canadian Securities Institute. www.csi.ca check it out

It maybe of help to you in your search for a good banking job. My suggestion is search the website for a suitable certification and then goto the jobsites and serach with the name of the certification as the keyword, then you will get an idea of the market value of the certification.

Just my 2 cents..hope it helps

The magicjack will make calls only in usa and canada unlimited free..skype and yahoo are of course cheap.

or buy a magicjack and activate is here ..send it to india ...and from your magicjack to the indian magicjack u can make unlimited calls...i plan to do that personally ..waiting for some friends to go to india so that i can give it to them

i had a laptop in india ( dell ) its cheaper in india...but u can buy here also..no problem. i had the laptop already so i bought that... if u have one get that ..why waste money on buying here..but dont forget to get the adaptor ..it costs just 200 rupees in india...

i never said 2 paratas...it was 4 paratas and it was so big that i can eat it max 1 parata for a meal.if u buy that you can easily use for 2-3 meals ..just reheat and eat.

in scarborough i found a tamil shop where i can get veg thali meals..it cost 6 dollars..u can eat ir confortable for 2 meals..

i never had any drink since i have come here..i have a self commitmetn to have my first drink from the money i earn in this place..regarding water a 5 litre mineral water cost 2 dollars in price choppers..but i drink tap water...All tap waters are drinking water.my landord has been drinking that for 15 years..so it depends on personal choice..

i have still not got a mobile number ..still shopping around..i have my mobile from india also.one of my friend said he will arrange a corporate deal thru his company..waiting for that..if he not getting i will buy one max in another week ..

personally i have two good coats with me i bought in india ..but i think in winter its best to buy here..never have exp abt canadian winter...otherwise you can dress by layers..

hey dont worry any house here generally has bed , stove ,fridge,heaters etc ..landry it depends...( in my house i have the landry inbuilt .the landlord has asked to me use it once in a week free. so i would wash once all my clothes..

newspapers u find free everywhere in stations malls etc...

a paper called global mail cost 28 dollar a month..there is another called toronto star whihc is famous..

i have never went to libraries from my childhood..hehehe .so not the right person to ask this..

here majorly all houses will be generally fully furnished only..rent depends on area and size and amenites..basement are cheaper..Apt for newcomers..but it will be bit cold than the first floor..
